Dude, relax. I'm a member too. But every time I see someone from TGMTB reacting in this fashion I cringe. Like I said, it would be nice to inform these guys of their trespassing, but there is no need to be rude.

You can choose to be lekker.

STUFF IT, I (we) have got all right to be indignant.  :cursing:

Maybe I must come and jump your fence, and ride around in your yard, and then say "sorry I did not know" when you get upset about it.

There is locked gates at the access points, MEMBERS ONLY notification, and these chops choose to come and trespass on a trail that took lots of negotiations, planning and work to implement, all within a few days of it opening. This is an privelige I pay for through my annual membership.

Surely you cannot be so naive to believe that their actions are excuse-able !!

Sorry guys, but I am gonna through a truck tyre in the works here. The code for the locks are hardly a secret to a few non members and this is due to the fact that some members have actually given their buddies the code.

So now whether these guys are rogue or not would most likely depend on whether one of their friends gave them the code.

Maybe they even from one of the surrounding farms

I have sent Tygerberg an email about some rogue riders a few months ago. Not sure what happened there.

Maybe knowing a bit more about the story would help me see your side. Please elaborate a bit.

You see, I have no idea where this happened and I can easily imaging these two guys being tourists that wandered in from a farm gate somewhere. Like you said, they weren't sticking to the trails. Did they jump the fence in an attempt to get away from someone trying to approach them or is this speculation? If they had to pass through a gate somewhere could it be that a member forgot to lock the gate? too many unanswered questions in this whole thing for me to be getting my knickers in knot just yet.

Twice I have been approached by marshalls riding Bottelary Hills Trails.

First time a mate and I bought day passes and rode the route from Middelvei. An Omie chased us down (we saw him earlier on the other side of the trail when we stopped at a lookout). When he got closer to us he was whistling and shouting for us to stop. We pulled over thinking he got mugged or someone died or something. Hiss tone from the off was Old Omie style accusing us for riding without boards. Both of us wore the day permit armbands around our wrists under our longsleeve jerseys. When we showed it to him he grunted something then turned around to ride his noble steed into the sunset to defend the glory of the trails.

The second time I was riding an e-bike around (More on Bike Hub this coming Friday!). I wasn't planning to ride the trails (was there to take some photos near the Zevenwacht manor house) so did not bother moving my members board over from my usual bike.

In the end I had so much fun that I wound up on the trails to sample the bike on some single track. Rode all of 5km on the trail before popping out to ride back home. 1 Because I wasn't planning to do a long ride and 2) I wasn't sporting my permit. An Omie pulled up while I was stopped for some more images (more of that on Bike Hub this coming Friday). Had a bit of a chat about all things bike before he asked me whether I'm a member or day permit rider. Explained to him what happened to which he replied "you have to sport your board at all times". We then had a chat about e-bikes, him building the trails we ride, before he took the e-bike for a short spin before telling me that he will buy one one day as he's 55 now and would like to ride till his last breath, but may not be able to ride all of the trails one day when he gets old.

As we parted ways he asked me to please remember my board at all times and to enjoy my Sunday afternoon.

Two VERY different experiences and like most people I responded better to the second encounter than the first.

So again, I support you guys 100%, but just check your approach. Also, before having a moment on Bike Hub, take 5 minutes to gather more facts to post as that will help a great deal. Knowing what we know now changes things.

there I was on Sunday, riding past the entrance to Kliprug to which we lost access because some oke on a bike acted like a dwis.

Yes, I said we lost access to that trail.

There's no tolerance, but there's a lot of excuses.

Then you're missing it as well. Okes on here asking a q or two trying to understand the circumstances. So far only Wannabee has added info worth knowing. STILL: with all possible scenarios all I'M saying is a level-headed approach will go a long way when it comes to stuff like this.

True, but there was a run up to that. But, yes the farmers do not have a lot of tolerance for stuff like this. BUT maybe a cool approach will help smooth things over rather than blow it further out of the water.

Guys, please keep in mind that we lost access to a really nice piece of trail because someone acted like a complete box towards the owner of the farm.

The owner just phoned the Committee, telling them, "Thats it, I'm revoking my permission for you to use the trails"

No amount of pleading and promises has swayed this man since, all because of one entitled %$@%$@.

HONEST QUESTION:

Let's say they get ID'ed or caught in the act, what are the available steps to follow from there? Steps 1 - 10 or how many ever there are.

This is a brand new trail / corridor that was opened on 11 June 2016.The sole purpose of it is to provide a safe passage to some of our trails for TGMTB members. All access points to the trails have big and clear MEMBERS ONLY boards, with coded locks (combinations known to valid and current members)

So there is no way a person NOOB OR NOT, can inadvertantly enter the trail and claim "I did not know" They had to jump the fence to gain access.

THIS IS PRIVATE LAND, and the owners granted access to TGMTB members under certain conditions.

Permission can easily be revoked, and with that scupper negotiations that lasted a long time.

So yeah, us current and paid up members has got all right to get upset about these chops!!!!

Best of all, they did not even stick to the clearly marked trail, they were up and down inbetween the vineyards.

Unfortunately they jumped the fence again before they could be apprehended.

Looks like family of the landowner to me...yes, I'm positive...still wanna shoot them?..just joking :) Did you ACTUALLY see them jumping the fence on BOTH occasions?

I believe someone saw the parachute in. So quite possible they missed the Members Only sign.

True story - you can see there parachute bags on their back
