HONEST QUESTION:

Let's say they get ID'ed or caught in the act, what are the available steps to follow from there? Steps 1 - 10 or how many ever there are.

You do the 2016 equivalent of a public lashing (internet name and shame).

In the end I had so much fun that I wound up on the trails to sample the bike on some single track. Rode all of 5km on the trail before popping out to ride back home. 1 Because I wasn't planning to do a long ride and 2) I wasn't sporting my permit.

So when you are just having a lot of fun and weren't really planning a long ride it really is ok to do a bit of rogue riding and people policing the trails should be nice to you?

I get you, rules are really more like guidelines and can be ignored if it is an inconvenience.

Doesn't take a genius to see why you and Karl aren't exactly seeing eye-to-eye on this matter...

Maybe knowing a bit more about the story would help me see your side. Please elaborate a bit.

You see, I have no idea where this happened and I can easily imaging these two guys being tourists that wandered in from a farm gate somewhere. Like you said, they weren't sticking to the trails. Did they jump the fence in an attempt to get away from someone trying to approach them or is this speculation? If they had to pass through a gate somewhere could it be that a member forgot to lock the gate? too many unanswered questions in this whole thing for me to be getting my knickers in knot just yet.

I think you're missing Iwan's point Skubarra. He know's what he did was wrong, he was trying to show you that there is more than one way to address someone if they do something wrong. A) you can be a grumpy guy that leaves you with a bad memory and no will to improve your behavior, or B) you can be a cool dude that points out that you were doing something wrong, but by way of example makes you want to be a better person.

it's the standard South African response when a rule/law is broken - " I broke the law because (insert your particular circumstance which makes your needs more important than the common good)"

Or the other SA response is whataboutery - as in "yes but what about taxis/murder/rape/etc"

Well, now that certainly changes things. Although I am admittedly annoyed at your initial omission of this information I will agree that they were clearly in the wrong. Please proceed to prosecute them accordingly.

This ^^^

Maybe if had run into mr (A) his feelings would have been hurt and he would have been p^&ed off but next time he is out there having fun with his e-bike he might think it is not worth the hassle to risk being caught rogue riding?

I believe someone saw the parachute in. So quite possible they missed the Members Only sign.

True story - you can see there parachute bags on their back

ROTFL

Did not at first notice this info. Only when I read the entire post. But I agree, it would have helped.

Just an add on, riding times on the corridors (actually all the trails) is in daylight hours only, sunrise to sunset (except for organised Night rides, as on Thursdays at Bloemendal) not First Light to Last Light (times are posted on TGMTB web page, www.tygerbergmtb.co.za  currently it is 07h50 to 17h45)

I totally agree with those who are "gatvol" of these rogue riders. Everybody has been trying to be politically correct and nice a few times too many and these type of "offenders" feed on that. It is very often found that it is the same guys doing it over and over again... repeat offenders. Simply because someone gave you an access code, that does not mean you are not a rogue rider. If you are not part of the club and you use their trails (that someone has put a lot of work and time in to negotiate access for and to build) that are clearly marked for club riders only, you are a schmuck and should be treated as such. They shite in the water of all those riders who stick to the rules and respect the structures in place to ensure the goodwill of land owners. As long as you pussyfoot around roque riders, the problem will persist.
