Lots of talk about the new Iconic Climb on Day 2. Sounds like a beast at 400m over 3km. By the sounds of it the entire route out of the valley has changed. No more Nandos and Push of a climb, but a few new ones to keep us busy. Looking forward to the change.

the guys doing J2c should know more about this route .....

What does no more Nandoes mean, as in no more burgers ?

well, no more Nandos burgers - now we get Spur - but also "Nandos" the climb.

The waterpoint is still there. (It's actually Spur now.) The long climb before the waterpoint is just out, as I understand.

There is a 5km valley road climb later in the day, but it's not the same one.

ok, so the long boring road is out, the old climb using the hunters land is out, I wonder where we going ?

and a 5km valley road climb later? where would that be? from Nandoes (spur) we used to go down the hill, then the nasty climb up onto the farmers land before heading to the tree's before heading down to the church.

google earth/map searching is going to be fun!

Not sure about the dimensions of that climb that's a 13% average gradient and if Mamba Switchbacks (350m over 3,5 km) is anything to go by the back markers are going to add an extra hour to their day. I think Farmer Glenn is spreading some fake news to get everyone training!

As I understood last night, Push of a Climb is still there.

The day 2 route will visit some of the Sani's earlier routes like "shongololo" etc that will be reintroduced.

Does this make it easier or harder than last year?

With Sani just around the corner I am surprised that there is not a thread with a whole lot of banter - unless of course there is one which I missed!

My first Sani so no idea what to expect. Did my first stage race 2 weekends ago (Cradle Trophy) and it went fine. Started in last batch for both days and ended up in the top 35% or so of the field which I took as a good sign.

A mate also said that if you can do 2 loops of Suikerbossie you will be okay on day 2 - did 2 laps of Suikerbossie on the weekend and whilst I started losing my sense of humour near the end I managed it.

My question then is, would Cradle Mountain Trophy and 2 laps of Suikerbossie give you any indication of how well prepared you are for Sani as those are my only real markers.

If you can do 2 laps at suikerbos then you should be fine. Also just depends how often you ride and if you do consecutive rides.

My advice take it easy on Day 1, get through Day 2 have a JOL day 3

Push of a climb is out, different more direct route being taken, cuts out a bit of a loop and reduces the district road.

you'll be fine, just take it easy on Day1.
