To echo what everyone else has said, well done to Gerald and his team for a well organized event as usual. No issues and everything seemed to go smoothly. And thanks to all the martials for looking after us.

As for the racing... I got taught another cycling lesson in VA, geeeeez, those boys are strong. Made it to just after the 100km mark on the road past Duduza but the wind and gutter got the better of me and I ran out of talent.

All in all, a good hard day on the bike.

Will be back next year.

Honestly, that group could have gone sub 3 if more than 2 people did some work.

It amazes me that open seeded bunches want to ride for time, but then leave it up to only a few to pull and dictate the time that is then achieved. This is very silly. By only letting 2-3 guys do most of the work, people effectively reside themselves to those guys times. 2-3 guys pulling into a headwind will tire them out so quickly.

Top tip for groups going for time. Help the stronger guys in your group, even if it is just a bit, it will give them some recovery time and they can then pull the rest for longer and harder.

I think most people are trying to just say with the group...never mind helping.

I wonder what % of the group actually survives till the end.

I do agree and think its a bit lame to hide in the bunch till the last km without helping the front just to claim victory in the bunch...

agree with you to point. But I know of 5 guys in our bunch that rode near the front and every time it was there turn somehow disappeared . I called the one guy out he came to front and did maybe 2 minutes and never saw him again untill the last turn when he sprinted past me.

But I was going to be dammed if he was going to beat me. Caught him and 1 other 20m before the line. My own little victory in my world ????????????????

And I was proper shagged...must be red mist somethings or other ????

Couldn't have said it any better.

Learnt the hard way at Satellite... Three of us practically pulled an entire bus to Helpoort from the school after Harties.

That DL bunch was FAST!!! Sat with them till about 26km/27km mark and the legs needed a breather... We were averaging 44km/h at that stage, if memory serves

Seven of DL finished under 3 hours...

Not enough rest before this race to stay on, but managed to recover... Happy with my 3:11. Would've been happier with something closer to 3:05, though.

yip..... was 1 of the lucky ones to do under 3hrs in DL..... was a hectic start! Nice and quick! Well done to all..... lekker race!

I would rather pop trying trying get a target time and miss it by miles, than be a lazy bum and miss it by just a bit.

Either way you missed it, but at least you gave it it your max.

thats k@k ,but if you back off the whole train practically stops. Untill one of the usual guys from the front get it going again. It's exhausting when it's windy coz you are getting battered constantly. But hey all part of the fun & games .

Thats my sentiments exactly...you either have that edge and guts or you don't . Finished & klaar...

I finished in the second AL group.  I hung on for dear life when we were going full taps down a hill in single file.  I think this was when the bunch split the firs time.

Hung on for dear life during the main break when the guys got off the front just after 75km.

I had one thing in mind. Suffer for another 2 or 3 minutes and make it with the group after 78km, or suffer the hour or so alone.

I managed to stay with the second AL group to the end.  I did a few turns on the front, but was quickly overtaken by some very enthusiastic riders.

I was about 6th or 7th wheel just before the turn to Carnival city when I suddenly realised how big the group really was, because the loafers all came to the front for the sprint.

I was not unhappy with my ride, considering I had less than a stable gut in Saturday.  Too a Rehidrat on Saturday evening, and another on Sunday morning.

Plan was to make it to the 47km mark and make a decision to continue, or bail onto the short route.

Stomach still not happy, but glad I still did the long route.  I had a proper HTFU lesson of note.

sometimes you have the guts but don't have the legs... I managed to get to the front of EL over the route and from about 60km I was in the main group.

On the last straight, I wanted to pull infront to try and pick up the pace a bit, but just got blown back by the wind, tried again and same happened so had no choice but to sit in.

Ended up 14th in the group.

Exactly what happened to me at R4V. I was properly done for! But hey, what doesn't kill you...

I think all preps should more or less be done for me now and just to try and be fresh for that sub3 947.. The nerves already phew..

Agree with you 100%....but the diffrence is you tried,Even though you were tired. That's all that counts in my books.

Panic training for me... have only had one long ride last weekend.

A few interval sessions at home but one endurance ride since the Amashova.

Will be sucking wheel in VC at the Cycle Challenge
