Reb Bull TV - XC Rob Walnut

Hello all,

As much as I love watching UCI XC on Red Bull TV, I would like to take the opportunity to winge about ex-downhiller commentator Rob Warner ....

I just don't think he puts in the time to be on top of the game in terms of what's going down in XC, and blags his way through the broadcasts. Good that Bart is helping out, because he is the salvation.

For example, today they are talking about hard tail vs softtail and why oh why is  Yo!landa is riding a hard tail, whilst just this week Yo!anda put out a video about the equipment she uses, if he was following her on the Tweeter (as he should be) he would be able to comment on that. In this case she explains that she likes the hard tail, its fast in the climbs and thats what she wants to stick with. He should certainly take the time to keep up to date with what these athletes are putting out.

Then last week, at the Worlds, he talks about the rider from 'Rhodesia'  during the Mens Elite Race !!!! That wasn't a joke, he just seems out of contact with the world at large. Perhaps too much in the pub.

Winge Over.

Otherwise, thanks Red Bull TV. Life wouldnt be the same without you.

I reckon that's about plugging the market, whether he gets remunerated or not, we can only speculate ... he used to do that with 29'ers. What's next, e-bikes? Mind you, Christoph is doing that quite well in that department.

The dropper seat post, yea that is irritating. They are nothing new, in fact I have it on record about a discussion he had about them (on air) 6 years ago at Mount St Anne.

Who is paying for these broadcasts? UCI? if that is the case, then surely the commentators should be impartial and agnostic in terms of brands and new product lines.

What I like about Bart is his knowledge, and he is a team manager as well. And nice bloke, in my book anyway. Even if his English is not 100%.

Guess they saving costs by getting him to commentate on both disciplines.. really doesn't bother me... I'm just glad we get it for free

Goes back to Freecaster days when the focus was the downhill, the XC was a bonus. But the sport has grown a tad since then

Obviously he's not an xc rider, but he keeps it going for the 2 hours which can't be easy.

There's no such thing as a full time xc commentator, so let's not be too picky. And with a handful of English speakers in the top 50 I don't think you can get too fussy really?!
