Bicyclegear Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 ...Tokai is going to be amazing once it is open. In the meantime come ride the ever growing Vlakkenberg MTB Trail in Hout Bay.
marko35s Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 So, the silence from Table Mountain Park continues as far as I am aware. The trails are ready to ride - mostly signposted and all the requirements that parks have demanded from us have been provided and exceeded in some cases. Hundreds of thousand of Rand in man hours and cash, but still nothing... So frustrated...No entirely true to be fair to SANParks, part of the sign at the bottom of DH1 needs replacing with an updated version rendering the entire mountain an unrideable danger zone. Frankly I'm surprised we are allowed to ride anywhere this side of Hermanus given this perilous state of affairs.
Capricorn Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 No entirely true to be fair to SANParks, part of the sign at the bottom of DH1 needs replacing with an updated version rendering the entire mountain an unrideable danger zone. wait, what? you taking the pissing? I dunno whether to laugh or not.
marko35s Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 wait, what? you taking the pissing? I dunno whether to laugh or not.Yeah sorry I'm being sarcastic. The reality is there isn't a single decent reason that the place isn't open other than a simple lack of will on the part of SANParks. The document that allows opening has, apparently, been sat waiting for a single signature on someone's desk in Pretoria since the end of August. Think about that for a moment...The document initially had an opening date of 1 October which was amended to 1 November when October came and went. Now 1 November is naught but a dot in the mirror who knows. Emails requesting updates are ignored and simply go unanswered.

leaboy Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 ...Tokai is going to be amazing once it is open. In the meantime come ride the ever growing Vlakkenberg MTB Trail in Hout Bay. is it safe up there, seeing that the informal settlement is nearby.
Duane_Bosch Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Yeah sorry I'm being sarcastic. The reality is there isn't a single decent reason that the place isn't open other than a simple lack of will on the part of SANParks. So excuse my ignorance here. If this person fails to sign the document. Tokai is still set to open on 31 Dec hey? This is just approval for early opening?
Headshot Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 So excuse my ignorance here. If this person fails to sign the document. Tokai is still set to open on 31 Dec hey? This is just approval for early opening?Duane, as I understand it, this is the acceptance of the liability insurance aspect - provided free of charge to the tune of R30 Million, that they wanted but actually don't need because there is no legally sound justification for it. They are a bunch of oxygen thieves messing other peoples lives around.
Duane_Bosch Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Ok direct question time. Is the 31 December 2016 opening date under threat?
Headshot Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Ok direct question time. Is the 31 December 2016 opening date under threat? No, but who da fuq knows what excuses they could still come up with. The thing is that's the worst riding time - hotter than ever, and after the holidays.
Duane_Bosch Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 No, but who da fuq knows what excuses they could still come up with. The thing is that's the worst riding time - hotter than ever, and after the holidays. Well at least they're consistent. Thanks for fighting the good fight gents.
Eddy Gordo Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Well at least I know that you guys never even bothered to pay the dude under the table so that he/she can sign off for the early opening.Essentially this is what should have happened.Unfortunately we do not operate like all the corrupt &*^%$ so we will just have to wait.

We paid him millions but he sold the rights to Oakbay instead....
porqui Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Ok direct question time. Is the 31 December 2016 opening date under threat? Has it ever been NOT under threat ?? What an arb date anyway !!
marko35s Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 i take it y'all didn't qualify for the tender? /sarcasm this delay is bloody stupid. For the sake of accuracy - we didn't tender. We put in a bid alongside PPA for a Memorandum of Agreement to run the activity and the initial reply that arrived, after much prodding, was unacceptable and simply would not work. The aim of what we are trying is to make the activity sustainable within the park using funds generated through the activity itself rather than whoever is responsible having to act like a latter day Oliver Twist and run around begging for "a little more sir" from companies and individuals. Also the day will come soon that PPA will turn off the tap, they have thrown a lot of money at mountain biking in the park over the years and at some point that really needs to stop. And yes the delay is bloody stupid.
marko35s Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Ok direct question time. Is the 31 December 2016 opening date under threat? Not as far as I know.Contact has now been made with the new park manager, through the Table Mountain Mountainbike Forum, in an effort to get Tokai open from 1st December to align with the opening of the new tracks (to be announced on Friday this week) that were opened up to us after completion of the EMP.
