Thanks Tony, I've seen a used Merida One Twenty for R6k so will look into it.

A Merida One Twenty is a good solid bike, if you can get the XT edition even better.

Just dont overspend on your entry level bike as you will probably be buying your next bike soon anyway ;) Are you specifically looking for a dual?

Good advice I received on my first.  Buy your second bike first!  Now there is four!  First one sold after 3 years!

For 13 k you can get a really decent hard tail 29er with good components and you can go fast . ???? That's what I would advise . Afterward you can decide if you need the added weight and hefty servicing costs of a dual sus.

Good luck

Thanks! Am I tall enough for a 29er being 5"6?

If you going for a duel suspension then really enquire about when the shock, fork and pivots were serviced as those will be the biggest expense.

Pivots are the thing that i think alot of people dont give enough attention to.

yes - just - I am 5 6 and in some makes a small works and in some I prefer a medium - that said I also have some 26" bikes - the bike wheel size is not a material factor really - unless it doesn't fit you - in which case you will always be uncomfortable and wont enjoy riding it.

you can get nice 26ers for cheap cheap but very soon the spares are going to get very scarce and getting them may get costly

It's true that, 26er chains are getting so expensive, as are 26er bottom brackets, brakes, pads, chain rings etc. Not!

For under R10k you can get a R20-30k 26er bike, whats not to love. And probably the best bet to go "cheap" at first because you'll no doubt get a better understanding of what you want after owning a bike for a while and you wouldn't have invested much into your first purchase, probably sell it for what you paid for if you found a little used 26er for a pittance.

Yes. Frame size will be the limiting factor as V12 so nicely explained. The same holds for the other wheel sizes.

Get a bike that feels comfy and has decent spec like Shimano SLX and has a pleasing aesthetic to you.

Buy whatever fits your budget best. Rather buy a 26er with proper components than a cheap 29er with entry level stuff like cheap titans etc.
