open up a new thread with that title.

BTW - it's an intrinsic and natural propensity to be more risk averse than males, for some odd reason. I dunno. I reckon it has a LOT to do with society's different treatment of the sexes. Would be a good experiment to get 2 lighties together and mould them equally from day dot, so that they have equal exposure to risk, danger etc.

Also - as lighties - which child are you more likely to let play rough and tumble, climb bigger trees, jungle gyms etc. The boy, or the girl? "You" being the average parent, that is.

I do agree that society has played a role in its different treatment and  I think it could also be the debate of nature v nurture with elements of both having an impact.   I have 2 young boys and both have been brought up the same yet they  each have a vastly different approach to risk, danger etc. Which is a blessing as I don't think I could cope with 2 daredevils as I freely admit to being a somewhat overprotective Mum.

I have only sterilized bottles after having a coldrink/energy drink/sports drink in it. Normally i carry water and have always just used soap and warm water to clean. Sometimes they end up in the dishwasher.

To get rid of the taste of Epol...

Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Epol dog food and was in the check out line. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, and that I was starting the Epol Diet again. I probably shouldn't, I continued, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time. I awoke in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. However, I did lose 40 pounds on the diet, so I was giving it another go. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is you load your pockets with Epol nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete and I needed to lose a few more pounds. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was, by now, enthralled with my story.) Horrified, this woman asked if I ended up in intensive care because I'd been poisoned by the dog food. I told her no, it happened because I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's behind and a car hit both of us.

Bwahahahahaha!

I was actually horrified the other day when my boys were at home, and the convo happened to turn to how bad dog food tastes.

Neither of them had ever tasted a dog pellet. I mean, come on, everyone has tried one or two just to see what they're like, right?

I remember as a kid, if we wanted a day or 2 off school we would make "fake vomit" by chewing up dog pellets with a spoon of vinegar and conveniently spewing it out in front of my gran (who looked after us). Worked every time but thinking back on that makes me wonder about myself a bit......

I know there are people out there that eat canned dog or cat food. Thats all they can afford shame.

Of course this was a few years ago, I wonder if it still happens

I remember stories about abandoned pensioners living on canned dog food from the '80s. Always made me think of that scene in Road Warrior ..

If the dummy falls on the floor:

1st child - dummy gets sterilized

2nd child - you quickly suck the dummy to clean it

3rd child - you let the dog lick it as you know that there is hair on the dummy

don't worry too much about the odd germ!

Strictly speaking....theres actually "nothing wrong" with pet food (besides the taste)....its perfectly safe to eat......(I 'm in the food industry...do work for all the canning companies in SA...and some outside....so i've seen the inside of practically every production facility in south africa.....i get to test the internal temperatures of those cans...and then have to approve whether it gets released into industry)

Pet food is actually processed to a MUCH higher spec than anything else...including baby food (theres a saying....."there are 2 things you dont mess with...peoples children..and their pets")

Interestingly enough...in the case of cat food (the pilchard or hake one)...the formula for the pet food, is exactly the same as the one for the pilchard/hake mince in a can...thats sold as "human consumption"........the pet food one is more expensive too!!!! ....exact same thing.
