Gears on a singlespeed frame

FFS, never saw myself starting a topic like this, but here goes....

 

I need to fit a shifter, cable, and derailleur on my on-one inbred frame.

This frame has no lugs for a shifter cable, it has horizontal drop outs, and I am fully aware of the sacrilege I am committing. Alas, I am entered for 3 towers with the missus, and I am not strong enough to ride that event on a SS.

 

I need to be able to complete the climbs without dying a thousand deaths each day.

 

So, please share your experience, I know Hairy has run his inbred with gears, and I would like to know any option that will not break the bank, or require any permanent fixing to my hallowed inbred frame.

Why not rent or lend a bike instead?

I was just about to suggest the same .Still some time before the event .Some of those climbs are so steep ,you will walk if you riding a geared bike anyway .The downhills and tunnels are what Mankele is all about

This makes my 3x worthwhile. Cannot fathom this single speed fad.  I had one at school and love the progress in bicycle technology.

I have a frame with a shock, and gears and all the technological wonders the modern day bicycles have to offer....except that it is a large, and al the tech is about 5 years old.

I have ridden this bike for a while now, but TBH, the weight is an issue, like having suddenly picked up 5 kgs overnight.

 

Make no mistake, it goes down hills like the clappers, but dragging it up is just too tiring on longer rides.

 

Perhaps my only answer it to HTFU. Slap on a 20 and a 30 for mankele and do only breedts nek hillclimb repeat rides till 3 towers time?

If you really love progress, you should be on a 1 x whateverthelatest"fad"incasettetechnologyis and not still spinning up the steeps in your granny gear.

problem solvers have a chain tug that will take a derailleur- but what you do about the cables I don't know - Grant Usher had stock a couple of weeks ago - about r350 - I bought one for my cotic roadrat but that frame is cable capable
