Coach copycat - ok or not so much?

What do Hubbers think, is it ok for coaches to copy programmes and share the same one among their clients? Have always suspected they would do this .

My coach is based in Cape Town and I am not (they know this) and next week's programme tells me to go do  hill repeats on a certain CT hill, or to do a strength session in CT based gym.

If I wanted a generic programme I could buy a Training Peaks one, not pay R800 per month for one which is supposed to be individualised. What do you guys think, or not ok? Generally I am paying for the discipline which having a coach gives me, because I know they will log on and check out my workouts, so I dont suppose it matters?

Easy and lazy way to make R800 per client. Should be different re fitness, long term plans, road or mtb etc

Have you even seen a coach for a rugby team not been on his field with his team?

I cycling coach is somebody out with his cyclist on a daily basis - this is coaching!

Anything else in my mind is just a training plan, maybe a 3rd party to bounce some ideas off. Yes I am sure most of these are just copied and pasted and the end user money taken for next too nothing. Possibly something just modified slightly from the internet. I maybe wrong!

No, I havent queried it yet. It happened just after I moved last year when I was still training with that coach, and when I queried that, I was told "oh you are supposed to find a hill similar to X in Joburg". But this new plan is obv just a copy/paste. I will query it again but Im sure excuse will be the same. Guess I should find a new coach but I am extremely cynical and believe they all do this.

Don't confuse "coaching" for Online Plans. For R800 per month, one should align ones expectations a bit. Not saying you aren't doing this, but think about how much time that R800 buys, maybe an hour or two?

Else if you aren't too serious and competitive, those online plans one can get from TP and the likes works well too.

That does however mean you need to take responsibility for your keeping it honest and watching the numbers etc.

Great coaches don't cost R800 a month....
