I know a lot of the racing talk was about Dreyer vs Harris vs James.

BUT Leon Erasmus and Jacques Tattersall are smoking it too. in the record breaking 2012 run, martin got to Malekholonyane at 5pm. LE and JT today - 5pm!

some FC lingo here that I've always grappled with.

the current FC record is:

10 days 16 hours 40 minutes

Set by Martin Dreyer in 2012

The second fastest is

10 days 23 hours 57 minutes, set by Alex Harris that same year.

Now this is known as finishing in "10days". I disagree. I did it in 18 days and 14 something hours. I got on my bike 19 times. I started 19days of riding, but it's known as "18 days". But that's like saying that the Hell&Back is a 1 day race, or Karoo2Coast is a 0 day race.

For me the holy grail has always been a 10day finish. Which is rolling over the line before 6am on the 10th morning. or....sub 240 hours.

yip. we need to start measuring this race in hours because it's got that quick!

wisdom prevailed it seems

OK, between you and me, and I hope no-one is listening....

Yesterday afternoon John came flying round a corner straight into a flock of recently-shorn sheep in the middle of the road. Down like the Titanic. Broken helmet and bruised ribs. Tricky bit was to keep this info away from his wife (my sister).....

This partially explains the not-so-fast movement over the ground today.

And the worst bit is that he didn't bring the skaap along for the braai......

Sirrias.

PS No sheep were harmed in the making of this post

Yoh, never a dull moment on the trail, glad he's semi ok, its a long game they are playing. PC seems like one tough tannie, I had her to bail early, but nope she showed some true grit when required and really seems to have the stuff, I'm backing them to make the finish, skaap or no skaap.

JT and LE doing a bit of a jiggle near Blackfountain early this morn, Marnitz comes past and they fall in line - reckon if someone like him comes past you dont ask "are you sure its that way?"

Spot on here, Martin will be the star of the show - but he's just an extraordinary human being, although I see the new helmet is starting to tilt, perhaps by Diemersfontein it will be in the required position.

The race between Jacques/ Leon and Fjord/ Mike is going to get interesting - very steady riding so far, all within reach.

I see Floris Botha has just left Rhodes - good man - he just keeps going - over the years we have many people who 'did it my way', its a long way to go still, I hope he becomes this years candidate for the "I did it my way" - there will be nobody at Diemersfontein with a bigger smile, but lets not get ahead of ourselves its a long way to go still.

Folks, sorry to disappoint but I pulled the plug on my race yesterday. Battling with a chest bug and simply had no power. Gutted to be out of the mix so soon after so much prep. Thanks for all the support and belief! To next time!

Floris is going well . But Hoffmeyer is still far away and time is not his friend at this stage . Really hope he can make the cut-off .
