Electric Mountain Bikes on a MTB race.

I can't believe people are suggesting that they be allowed in races that are traditionally human powered only (alphabet soup or not.)

Where you draw the line. Can I rock up with one of these to a bicycle race? (It's a wrist twist assisted. That wrist twisting is tiring work.) CTCT sub 2:30 here I come!

Bikes with motors belong on race tracks (like Phakisa) or motorcross tracks, not in bicycle races.

they don't work like that. and if you're implying that it's a modified one, then that's a different category and you should state that.

How don't they work like that? You have someone that could previosly go up a hill at 10km/hr now going up at 15km/hr. Thus overtaking faster/more skilled riders who then want to overtake the guys on e-bikes on single track again. If you read above you will see I am a big supporter of ebikes, this is in my opinion the only potential issue at races.

Edit: I have spent quite a bit of time on an ebike so I have a pretty good idea of how they work.

In two or three years you will not be able to tell the difference between an e bike and a normal bike.

But a motorbike will still look like a motorbike.

ja, i think the term 'powering' past is a relative one. Sure guys will be going faster and longer than before. But it's not a blanket statement that all slow riders uphill will be slow riders downhill (e-bike doped or not).

If i overtake you on a hill then one of three conditions exists

1. I am on an e bike

2. You are on an e bike and the battery is flat

3. You really are k@k slow

Oh ja, completely agree with that. An e-bike does not make you superman uphill, and most definitely does not mean you are pathetic on the downhills...

One is pedal assist and the other is grip twist and about 160KG.....

If it looks like a bike and goes like a bike, its a bike.

soon to be seen at all trail heads ....

Once upon a time, long long loooooong ago there was this craze. It was expected to be THE next big thing. But alas, it fell flat on its face...

It was called a fatbike.

Is the same going to happen with an e-bike? Time only will tell

Surely they have their place, but allowing their use in a race in a mixed category is a potential recipe for frustration.
