Hout Bay Incident: Do you know this cyclist?

There was no verbal threat.

There was no physical threat.

(And not perceived either)

No man, I'm not talking about the Hout Bay Pepper spray/ hold- your- lane- saga here. There is a sub thread here about the justifiable/ unjustifiable use of violence

I was referring to a large part of our population that see violence as a legitimate way to (1) protect themselves (2) force their believes/ ideals unto others and the unwillingness of some to realize that we are not living in a peaceful utopia.

The only way you could know as a fact that there was "no perceived threat" is if you were the person using the pepper spray. Whether the rider perceived a threat or not is entirely subjective to him.

Perhaps what you meant to say was "based on the facts as I know them, it was not possible for the rider to reasonably have believed that there was a threat to him from the motorist".

Is a signature in SAPS incident book good enough for you?

I will give you three facts and then you make up your mind.

He was not as far left in the left lane as he could have been.

She used hooter.

He used pepper spray.

You figure.

How did he get to the right hand side of her car to pepper spray her?

Did the lady wait till it was safe to pass the cyclist?

Porqui, clearly you have more info than any other user on this site. Are you possibly an eyewitness or bystander? You version of events would be the closest to the truth we can get in this point in time. (Until the perp raises his version of events, then we will have to see where the middle ground is)

Would you kindly sketch us the events leading up to and including the pepper spraying?

I shudder to imagine the mood of the masses if this guy had been riding a Specialized......

My Word, if that had been the case the pitchforks would well and truly be out

I heard the lady had a Specialized sticker on her car

Imagine if he was wearing all black? :P

Haha  - looks like he was properly illuminated judging by the stuff on his bar, so the "I didn't see you" response from a driver would probably not have worked.

Occurs to me re-reading my post above, this case is Oscar all over again :-)

So what are the real 'FACTS' in this story now?

- Was pepper spray actually used by the cyclist on the driver?

- Did the cyclist fall getting out of the way of the hooting vehicle?

It's so hard to read between all the lines here?

Porqui, you seem to have an inside scoop here? Did you witness this event yourself personally and if not, where are you getting your info from?

I think what happened was....eeemmmm, he was in the yellow line and she liked what she saw...then hooter ... then he saw her beautiful face and crashed! As he got up he wanted to get his cell phone for her number then accidently took out the pepper spray.... makes sense?

This can all be solved over a cappuccino that's a little late !

Good luck in getting an answer on that. I asked a similar question about two days ago, still no word from Porqui on this thread since then...

I'm not so sure Porqui is the right guy for an objective account of this incident. He seems way too emotionally invested in this story and seems to be pushing a bit of an agenda with huge biases, justifying everything as "fact" when its pretty evident the only fact here is that he doesn't seem to understand the definition of the word "fact".

Not saying that I'm standing up for the alleged perpetrator, just that we should exercise a little bit of skepticism with Porqui's account of events, should it ever be forthcoming.
