Please be considerate in the Cradle (and everywhere else)

Do not care what you say it is against the law and does not help our sport against the motorists. By all means ride two abreast if the emergency lane is wide enough but then again....that will also be against the law because only emergency vehicles should be allowed to ride in the emergency lane....just can not win.

Biggest issue in the country is no one is considerate anymore...everyone believes it is their right etc

Amen!

Rode the cradle on Saturday morning (not the norm as usually ride Sunday) and am sad to the say that the conduct of some of the cycle clubs was horrific to say the least.

There was one large bunch (not sure of what club as not many were wearing club colours) riding past the Cradle restaurant that were literally taking up the entire road, to such an extent that cars overtaking had to veer into the oncoming lane putting not only other cars in danger but also cyclist going in the opposite direction.

I rode cradle on Saturday and was shocked at what chops some of the Dimension Data riders are. The sense of entitlement because they are riding in a group. Their Marshall is blowing his whistle and shouting but they were oblivious to the calling. They need to be made aware of the protocols before the ride

Was not only Didata but also Road Cover, Delloites, Cycle Lab etc.

keep in mind there is a variety of DD kits available, and could have been the Club 100 brigade.

If you know for a fact these were DD employees  and an organised DD ride, PM me please...

Was also there Saturday and tagged onto the back of the Club100 in the DD kit from the lion park past the cradle restaurant and agree they were filling the road and not even moving over when cars and trucks were behind.  At one point just after the cradle restaurant the group overtook a CL group and it felt like it was a full road closure event as riders were across the white line and everywhere!

Well I think thats what I have been trying to say. The brand of club has almost nothing to do with it.

Once normal adult individual riders start riding in any large group, regardless of the club colours on their back, they often forget to ride like decent humans.

Hence me saying that it is up to us as adult individuals to take responsibility for our own behaviour. So if you ride in a CL/C100/RC/MG/blabla group, take it upon yourself to ride like a considerate and responsible adult.

Pinning bad behaviour on clubs is a bit childish in my opinion.

Ps: "DiData" is Club 100, the DD employees dont ride is big groups often.

I don't think I have EVER seen a club or large bunch riding 2 abreast.....they by and large think the roads in the Cradle belong to them and only to them, at the expense of the frustrated motorist trying in vain to pass.

As I have said in the past, probably the worst stretch of road to navigate by car is from Riverstone Lodge/Avianto to the Kloofzicht circle. I cannot get over the fact that these idiots (not referring to clubs here but riders of more than 2-3 in number) ride 2 and 3 abreast in the car lane, oblivious to what is coming from behind and then when you give a quick hoot to warn them of your presence, they freak out and out comes the middle finger! . Having said that the other culprits are the Harley clubs who blast along 2 abreast seeing how close they can come to the cyclists and now and then the BMW (car) club who take delight in balsting along at 200km/hr PLUS....

For a start I think that all clubs should speak to their members and enforce the 2 abreast rule - non-negotiable. Especially CL who I personally believe are somewhat on the arrogant side and have been doing this for years and years!

Yes, to overtake 2 guys riding in the cycling lane means encroaching into the car lane but that just takes a quick peek behind to check there is no traffic approaching from behind and a bit of an acceleration.

People we need to clean up our act or we are no better than the taxi drivers we have to deal with the other 5 days of the week!

My CYCLIST'S rights vs a DRIVER'S rights mean NOTHING if I go home in an ambulance (or worse).   No cyclist has ever won in a car vs bike accident, and I doubt this will change.

We've all done stupid or thoughtless stuff on bikes but our PRIMARY motivation should be to get home ALIVE and in one piece...and, YES, that means obeying the law and being courteous to all other road users.

I recently had a big reality check when I visited my training partner in hospital after he had a big off.   Though we like to think we're all tough as nails, humans are flipping fragile and we break easily.   He will be probably be OK but he has young kids and when looked his wife in the face, I could see the huge impact a simple bike accident can have on those we love.

I rode with C1 this morning from Cycle Lab in Fourways. The group was about 40 strong if I had to guess. 1st time I had ridden with them, or any club ride for that matter.

I enjoyed the Marshall that was with us to make sure we kept the pace that was set for the group and also to enforce the rules. We stopped at the red lights, rode 2 up and kept to ourselves at all times. Having the road rangers man key intersections (Cedar, Malibongwe, Witkoppen) was also a win. Staying up front of the group I don't know what things looked liked way back,

Man was the Cradle busy! Cyclists by the 100's! Normal car and light truck traffic, but all seemed under control.

I can see how motorists get peed off if they need to use the Cradle on a regular basis. It's just that busy.

Don't littler. Keep it tidy. Follow club rules, heck, follow, your own rules

And we'll all be ok

..... ride 2 and 3 abreast in the car lane,

I did not know that there is such a thing as a "car lane".

I thought lanes are for all forms of traffic.

What road traffic sign identifies a "car lane" ?
