I don't think today is a rest day, its a transfer day. You need to have at least 5 days of racing before a rest day and a transfer day is not automatically a rest day...but can be. Enough admin.

Can someone kindly explain to me when Rohan Dennis became a GC contender for the Giro?

Dont know,....but I am wondering if Nibali will be motivated to try for the pink jersey as a sort of tribute to his home Messina Sicily? He doesn't have to keep it, just dump it a day or two later, ala Armstrong.

Personally I think unless one of the potential GC contenders gets a bee in their bonnet and goes off on their own forcing the others to chase, its going to be a damp squib, Quintana will stick to his handbook "The Quintana guide to tedious riding" and follow wheels and I dont know if Nibali has legs just yet, he usually sort of works his way into GT,.. so it will probably  be up to Thomas, Dumoulin, Zakarin or Mollema maybe, I dont think they will chase anyone else too hard.

about 2 minutes after his crash so that cyclist journalists could write stories for the transfer day!

I'm sure Nibali will want it to wear on the stage into his home town. My guess is that he will sit with the leading bunch and jump them on the line.

Can't see anyone winning the race tomorrow but there will be a selection, or one of the Bardiani riders will disappear up the road and take the stage and the jersey. Who knows? Giro can be unpredictable.

Problem is the responsibility coming with wearing the jersey. Your team burns matches unnecessarily and you fatigue them before they get to the last week.

BUT, Nibali is a proud rider and the temptation to wear pink into Messina might stand above reason.

Hell, if Cannondale dont do something tomorrow they may as well circle the Argus as their big event of the year. Taken a full climbing squad to giro with no real GC. Tomorrow is theirs to lose. No other team has strong climbers that have no GC ambitions.

Its too early for the GC boys to rock and roll and too tough for conti teams.

Yah, but he doesn't have to keep it, maybe the day in Sicily and get rid of it, its easy to dump the pink jersey.

I think if he can he will try, but that could also show him up if he gets shelled and he usually takes a while to warm up, so I dont know.

Haha, I kind of forgot they were there. Woods actually in a very good position to do this, IIRC he had a mishap yesterday and lost time?

No, but it can give you a handy little time gap and bonus, Zakarin has a few seconds to catch up so he may try and do a runner, he isnt scared to go off on his own so I hope so.

Was looking for today's stage, only to see that they decided to ride for 3 days then take a break. pfft!!!

Caught me as well. I thought there was a rule about no rest day in the first week in grand tours.

Rest days suck more than Paris Hilton does after 3 lines of blow.

I stayed in the Paris Hilton. It has a wide entry vestibule that is a site to behold. Rue de Felatio, right?

On other matters, I really hope there is some excitement up Etna tomorrow - may winds blow, or may a few teams attack the Q-man.
