ScottCM Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 So with the swim leg of this years event being cancelled, do you think that i will hinder peoples desire for next year or has it made you change your mind perhaps? Being a mere fortnight after the comrades i doubt we will see Superwoman Wostmann there this time around.
IceCreamMan Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 not sure I will still be in ZA in june but I would go back no problem. Possibly the swim start should move towards the harbor to make it less likely of the swim being canned. Midlands Ultra people are holding a half in march, not sure of the swim route though. I will do that as final prep for IM PE. I enjoy the swim, if a tri continuously cancels the swim it would affect my wanting to enter or not.

Option 1 is as per the 70.3, with the other options moving further south as you said. Seems as through the transition area will move depending on the swim.
ScottCM Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 1st ever 70.3 Entry - Done I was thinking about doing the Sprint at Sun City on the 7th May as a warm up as my only Tri to date was Germies lake last year nov for the 5150. For those whom have done events at Sun City, how far is it from the wave place?Seen as we have never been there was thinking about taking the wife and kids then afterwards spending the day at the waves etc. Will the water be swimmable in may, temperature wise? Is there other stuff to do if its to cold to swim?

In the event the weather is really foul there is more than enough to do at sun city but ultimately with kids it adds up financially if you not at valley of the waves. There are busses that run all around sun city all the time so don't worry about distances or anything else.
shaper Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Problem with Durbs is they moved from August to June which is now right in the middle of winter storms out at sea which increases the winter swell. Also this year was an equinox weekend which added to the conditions... so likely to happen again next year!! Perhaps they will have a Plan B to move the swim should conditions be similar. As for me and doing EL then PE, will see how I feel after PE and whether there are any entries still available for Durbs. Having done it the last 2 years am not so fussed if do it next year or not. Might consider the Tinman series or the Ultra or even Trirock (if they resurrect the event)

Temp will not matter as you in a wetsuit.
Wheelsuck Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 They have a couple of things to sort out, the swim obviously but that loop back on the bike is very congested with people on their last/first loop and cost me my collarbone this year. But will do it next year to get to a magical number of 70.3's completed.

Yeah that is my concern, water being to cold for the kids to swim and then what once the cash dries up. Maybe i should look at rather doing Tour Durban the week before, at least that way accomodation is free and i get a good long ride at race pace in the legs and can always go swim in the ocean as an off the books training session.

Ironman is doing a Tour series if you enter all three before East London closes - then you get special medals for each event handed to you at the awards dinners.

Cycling Major Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Just enterred Durban... So EL and Durbs for me... First time ever - SUPER EXCITED!!!
ScottCM Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Nice cycling major. Good luck for EL in a couple of weeks time. I will be super bummed of the wind is hectic and they call off the swim as I joined Virgin Active this morning purely for the use of their pool. Don't think a bit of strength training on the legs will be a bad idea either

Don't think a bit of strength training on the legs will be a bad idea either Thanks Scott! Yes I will also be super bummed... It will be my wife's first 70.3 so would like her to have a full one. I also joined the gym purely for the swimming, luckily EL should be fine... Will hopefully see you on the road
ScottCM Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 So for the experienced guys out there, what is the awards ceremony like? My wife is no longer going with to Durbaz, and being fathers day i thought maybe take the old man, but seen as i have no aspirations for slots or anything should i rather take him out for supper with my mom and my kids?
EmJayZA Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 How is this course? I was planning on doing my first 70.3 in January, but I think I could potentially be ready for this if I don't injure myself.
