Fat Boab Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 It was Contador, he tested positive for being a Hasbeen. His B sample returned the same result. You mushroom!
Pure Savage Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 What is the correct beverage to drink while watching TDF, the classics, its belgian beer... Now French wine? A little creation wine I think for the TT will be great.
J Wakefield Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 True, but when comparing athletes earnings, its interesting to see the stark differences. The funding side of cycling seems to be a real spiders web with sponsors/tv coverage monies/ winnings etc. Needs its own thread Its like any sport in the world. Athletes are being paid what they are worth and revenue. there soccer players in Euro or english league basically living month to month and some on bonus money only. Others are Messi. Same as cycling but it all comes down to revenue streams and how popular a sport is. If there is only so much money in a sport then salaries are subconsciously capped. If Trek had a 750M Euro budget I am pretty sure that Contador would be on a 50m a year salary as a team leader and GC Tour winner. Merchandise sales, sponsors, budgets, ticket sales etc all come into play here. 1 million people on Alp d'Huez in 2015 and not 1 ticket was bought to watch the show, AC Milan play Barcelona and 80 000 tickets sold at 300Euro a ticket plus food sales, booze, merchandise etc etc. When people say that there is no money in cycling or that guys are hard done by is kinda rubbish. There is money in it, there are guys earning good money riding their bikes and yes, its a small majority but not every single tennis, soccer or golfer is making Messi ammo. It sounds wrong but if you don't like what you being paid to kick a ball or ride a bike, go do something that will pay you what you expect is right. Thats the 1 part of some athletes I don't like or general public. Bottom line is: If there is more money salaries would be up, if you worth more, you will be paid it. If not, then there is a reason.
jcza Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Cyclings problem is that the TV money is not going to the teams but to the organisers. In football/soccer thats where the bulk of the clubs income comes from, not the gate. If the TV money is not enough then a new deal must be negotiated. Cycling needs a shake up, thought Tinkov was going to do it but afraid not. Remember when cricket got their shake up with Kerry Packer? Golf got theirs? Rugby anyone? Time must be nearly right for cycling to get with it. It cannot continue to rely on billionaires with a passion (or ego) for the sport.

Great points. The rider has to build his own brand as well, look at Jens he never won a GT or classic and peaked in 2009, but was able to build a massive brand around himself. Again, not everyone can do that, but some do it better than others.

When that gets rolling ASO will be in trouble. Even if the UCI gets the rights and can distribute the money to the teams it will be better than present.

Now that they are recording from km0, Supersport may also just broadcast from km0.
