URGENT NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS!!!

"A shot was fired across our bow" this morning. The land owner of the Welvergenoegd trail (trail Z) gave the club it's first official warning this morning due to cyclists continuing to explore his farm.

Ladies and Gentleman, we take this in a very serious light! The club has invested a substantial amount of money to build this trail and get access to this farm. It has also taken years of building relationships to get to this point of gaining access to his land. We are not prepared to lose this trail over a handful of people who refuse to abide by club and land owner rules.

It is pretty simple REMAIN ON THE MARKED TRAIL AND DO NOT DEVIATE FROM IT!!! If you are caught exploring any farms off of the designated and marked trail you will face club disciplinary action and your membership will be suspended. This includes riding without a day pass or an expired membership.

We urge you to notify us of anyone deviating from the marked trails. Feel free to take photos and send information to tygerbergmarshals@gmail.com

Please help us not lose another trail.

Thank You!

That new section is great and really appreciate the work that's gone into all of it but the fact that it might all go to waste because of a few callous riders is unbelievable.

The number of riders I see on Strava or social media posting pics of riding illegal trails is mind blowing! You are ruining all the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes.

C'mon guys!

"Explore the farm..."

Why, oh why, rogue TMBMBMCBCB members?

Trap jou fiets, follow the track and chase the Hoogekraal Full Loop Strave thingie

Ai... not looking good.

How many yellow cards before a red card?

Please specify which members. Tygerberg Club or Hubbers. All Members refers to all Hubbers.

I thought he was referring to my member.... but after considering that for a moment of incredulity and then reading the thread it seems I was initially mistaken.

HOWEVER - on a serious note - can the club not do what the Cape Epic does and use Strava, Garmin connect and other tools like this to find these errant few and reprimand them?

does it matter? everyone needs to know, whether they are club members or hub members or club members in another province at another club, they need to be aware of what will happen, cause it is happening all Over.

But if you find the poor unfortunate souls, please give them time to state their case. Maybe they just got lost. I once got lost because one arrow was liberated by vandals.

I must confess, I am glad I am not club chairman or such. It is a pain the keep the peace all the time between land owners and riders. You have to be thick skinned and tough inside to keep sanity with all the rogue riders and trail vandals, which you get lots of here on the wine farms. Regularly I come accross arrows that is broken, or just gone. Even some where the arrow is changed to send riders in opposite directions.

I recon these guys were exploring hoping to find some rocks, features and other gnarly terrain  cos the track was too tame ....

i'm leaning towards this theory. also strava hunting on segments which was covered during a specific race day only but is not part of the now existing marked route.

Isn't this the all new bit of trail at Hoogies? If so, perhaps its just some people getting lost? It does happen and will no doubt occur less and less as people get to know the trail better...  (Glass half full approach as opposed to lynch mob)

don't know if you've ridden there Headshot, but it's pretty much impossible to get lost on that trail. There's only one path to follow.

I just watched a video  of the trail and would agree.... you have to be pretty dumb to go off track by accident.

Is there a dam along the way? Maybe people have been having a rest on the grass? Is that allowed?

there is a (smelly) river with a grassy area pretty much right next to the trail, so I doubt that is the bit the farmer is upset about.

Off topic, two rogue riders were riding on our farm and saw the workers standing in the designated trail so they took first turn off to avoid them. This turn off happened to be my driveway and their timing was perfect in that my wife just pulled out of our gate and got out of the car to close it but she didn't see them.

She got a bit of a fright when the two popped out infront of her and my bigger dog of my two german sheppards noticed that she got a skrik and being the great dog he is, went for the riders, and he speared tackled one clean off his bicycle. Luckily for the skelm/boef/tsotsi my wife shouted at the dog and he went back into his yard and the dief jumping on his bike said sorry and they both sprinted away.

To this day i dont even know if my dog got in a good hap but they wont be riding there again. Ps. There are massive no cycling signs (2 actually) at the start of our driveway and moerse big sign at farm entrance.
