Perfect ride. Quickly dropped from % to 1C and that was where I stayed. Had such a LOL at the guy getting fed up with all the "car!" shouting and his funny sarcastic comebacks. "Behold the miracle! A car on the right!"

Really folks, lets stick to the correct side of the white line.

Not my best ride but at least I was wearing MTB baggies on a 1x8 bike

The 1 minute gaps are not nearly enough, started in 1A, before the last riders of % were around the first corner we were off. About 20 of us managed to close the gap and caught % just after Helz (thanks to the Pure Savage rider who put in a few massive turns up front as we were closing in on them)

Was pretty nice sitting in the % bus knowing that you got a 1 minute gap on just about everyone else in the group, just had to finish with the bunch to finish with a faster time than everyone in %  (so that drop in seeding turned out to be a blessing in disguise)

Morodin - there was a number of strong juniors starting with us in 1A, seems they are not allowed to start further upfront, was wondering if your son bridged the gap to % with us, luckily the young guy will still get many more chances.

His main XCO rival started with him in 1A, and finished with a 2h31. But with the crash injury bugging him, and not enough proper training because of exams and the injury, it cost him dearly for that last 30km. But he will get there. His main rival rides with an academy, where my son currently don't have that for road cycling, as he rides with me on training rides, and sometimes, the Wannabe group. I want to get him into a proper training group once he leaves school, or join a bunch like the Pure Savages, by hey, they are hardcore.  :whistling:

Then you must have rode with my son, as he joined the 1C group up to 60km.

Ah yes. That was cannonball Klyde, with that effort he managed to beat me, his boet for the first time ever.

I was at the back of $ after arriving late, by the time we rode onto hells, the bunch was 250m up the road, ended up a long day of chasing. At least had a mate for company [emoji23]

Those Savages that were on time mangaged 23 and 69 [emoji8] then the rest came in at 2:31.

99er and SA road champs same weekend in 2017 and both in same area at times - Wellington. Its not good for cycling and motorist relationships. Sent 99er organizers an email on Friday when I got my entry open notification - turn out CSA moved their champs a week earlier to accommodate the African champs.

But there really need to be a hierarchy and SA champs need to be at the top on the RSA calendar as it need to accommodate the UCI calendar. We all know what attention the commentary give the RSA national jersey events like the TDF and other world tour events - it major marketing for RSA. With the PPA road calendar so poor it’s a major shame the the National road champs and a seeding event for the Cape Town cycle tour again are clashing this year.

I suspect road management for both events will be compromised on the Saturday of the 99er.

Perfect :)

All the big guns will be at SA champs and the weekend warriors can roll at the 99er

There was a father and son in 1C with me, I think it was his first long road ride, they rode pretty good. As always there was a couple of clowns that did not know how to keep the pace or their line.

A very big thank you to the lady on the tandem, the guy that know firstaid and the doc who stopped and help me after my fall and messing up your race as it took awhile for the ambulance to arrive. The guy I ran into, sorry bud completely my fault. I hope you suffer no consequences. I am no worse off than a broken collarbone and massive bruises on my back. I am really thankfull there are people out there who care. A big thumbs up from me.

I was in % - you 1A guys did well to catch us so soon.  What were the marshals on about, yelling at the 1A guys all the time to go to the front?

I was under the impression that if you caught the group in front of you, you earned the right to hang in the bunch like the rest of us.

There were marshals?

I saw one motorbike (from 2F) for about 30 seconds as it flew past. Rest of the morning it was just a big group of cyclists alone vs cars (and trucks and buses).

My third one.  Piriformis Syndrome and trapped sciatic nerve has kept me off the bike for 9 weeks in the last 4 months.  Missed 947 but have to be in CT on the 4th so am bringing bike with and  have entered.  Starting in 2F.  If you see an ECCC rider dying up Hels, it will be me.  Apparently a few of my co-members will be riding with me to keep me company.  Like that has ever happened!

Good to see you are on the mend. When I saw you at 25 km to go it was obvious that will finish strong despite your recent setback. Nicely done. Vasbyt. You will be show condition soon. I enjoyed the outing. Couple of Rambos early on and later we had non-conforming hangers-on that wouldn't help upfront. Thanks to the three ladies in L and K who helped with big pulls over the last 30 km's to see us home in a respectable time. No fireworks, just respectable. As for the parasites in the group, hope you guys are nice and fresh at work this morning.

% had the ladies and the other best seeded men who weren't riding in $.  I, for example, was just a random seeded rider, and I was in %  -  I don't have a racing license.

1A had the next best seeded riders.

Road 1D that quickly caught up to the other bunches. One thing I have learnt is stay in front if possible. I was nursing some DC legs that nearly broke going up Hels and found myself in a big bunch about half way into the game. Not sure what happened but 2 riders went down in front of me with as little as 30kms to go. Those around me did very well to keep calm and managed to escape.

I'm no pro but I saw some really stupid manoeuvring in the bunch. In the end there is no chance that any of us would take podium so can't figure out why people take such dangerous risks?

I rode in %  .. first time im in a group thats a symbol. I managed to ride with the main/front % all the way to the end, but was way too afraid to get mixed up in the sprint zone, that and my legs wouldnt oblidge.  Was generally event free for us, other than naughty riders who crossed the line. no crashes really.  Finished 2:32
