This might sound weird to a lot of people but I'm just curious to find out....

I've recently tested the Spez Turbo Levo....Jeeeeezzzz it was an awesome outing and I really brings back the fun in riding a MTB!!!

For 6 years I've been riding a MTB (non pedal assist) and been doing quite a few races but ever since I've tested the Levo.....I want one, but will find it hard to sell my sworks for an ebike!!!

Will there be any ebike categories at races in the future?

I think there should be an entirely different hub for those peeps. maybe www.ebikehub.co.za :whistling:

I'm all for an E-bike participation in events that are not timed like the Greyton MTB Tour, Houw Hoek Tour etc.

I'd sell the S-Works, buy a decent XT / X9 specced midrange bike for stage races and riding with mates on a weekend and then have the Levo for the fun days / commuting / sweeping in events / for the wife to come along / to tow my toddler in a buggy on some gravel grinds, etc.

The moment they allow e-bikes in a race, they can count me out of that race.

Husband on a e-bike pushing his wife up the hills so she can podium?

There is a slight difference between events that "publicly allow e-bikes" vs "don't actively check for e-bikes" and then a huge difference to an event that has a dedicated system to sniff out any e-bikes.

I don't know if we will ever have the third category in SA, but how does an organiser go about this issue?

e-bikes have already been making an appearance at KZN races not sure if organisers are allowing them to ride officially but some very very big riders passing on the big climbs without breaking a sweat,

As long as you're not racing for position, it shouldn't be a problem.

This sounds like another moral grey area, albeit a very very dark grey one at that....

Fun ride vs Races.

99% of people take part in fun rides, really no issue if you come 174 or 175th really.

Really depends on how much fun you have and for the organiser, if you pay your entry fee, you could rock up on a hover bike and they would not care.

Like at the DC, okes rocked up on TT bikes   but they had paid their entry fee so they were allowed to race, even though they were a hazard and did cause an accident.

I thought DC explicitly disallowed tt bikes?

Slippery slope imo. At what point do you cross over from "Ag they are just at the back minding their own business" to "Now they are affecting the outcome of races/categories because someone slipped an ebike"

Give them their own events or at least category and split them from the rest of the field.

Yes, but if you rock up on one, they apparently dont stop you starting.

That's BS. They knew the rules, or should. Were I the race comm, I would have sent them packing. Why do people always want to break the rules to have a one up on their competition, and then plead ignorance when explained the rules?

E-bikes, let them have their own race. Once they are allowed in normal races, it just stinks. I work hard to move myself up through the field in every race, even if it is pos 180 out of 220. I would hope that other riders do racing out of the spirit of improving their health whilst having fun with a bit of competitive spirit.

So if road cover or giant or hot chillee pitch up on TT bikes, will the rules suddenly be applied?

Can you confirm this 100%?

If the PPA allowed this to happen, even though it is explicitly against the rules, there will be a problem with them knowingly putting other riders lives at risk.

I would love to hear the justification, if this is in fact true.

Maybe we take it back to the DC thread?
