I must say it is getting a bit of a problem especially in an open plan environment I work in.   It also limits my access at home to times after the kids are in bed.

Same problem I have at work. It's a open and public forum' date=' but it's still a cycling forum.

er, should you be on the hub at work?

Yes why not? We have a very open and relax policy about surfing at work.

But it's one thing to spend time on the hub and another thing to have "porn like" little images on your screen when someone comes to your desk or walk by etc. Sure the avatars is not porn as such, but it's close enough look bad in a work environment.

Thanks for the comments Holy .... (?)

It's like saying that stealing a pen is different from stealing a car' date=' using the justification that "my sin is not as bad as his sin" is not an excuse.

Analogy:

Do you not DQ someone in race because they only went 1 foot over the white line whereas someone else went 3 feet over line?

Skye's point is this -

Some of the avatars and postings cross the line for a cycling forum - it doesn't matter how far across the line ...

named for a bmx tyre made by maxxis. had all that was holy in me beaten out of me by a bunch of christian brothers.

my own moral "line" or "compass", as you put it, is determined by the theory of hobbes' social contract. although of late, i am being guided more by calvin and hobbes.

guys, i do have to agree with skye on this. as scorpione rightly poitns out - thehub does tend to have the most lewdness/crudeness of non-sex-related sites out there. i'm certainly no prude but there are limits. if stuff can be removed because it merely questions christianity then surely a line can be drawn re smut? sammajoors' isn't too bad but the other two should really be kept for the boys' (or lesbians) clubs.

p.s. due to the nature of my job i can NOT switch of images in my browser and very often screen shots or diagrams are used in technical papers etc

How do one put a avatar on thehub ? I used one that was on the list but would like to use my own choise. Can somebody please tell me what to do.

one way is to google one (make sure it isn't copyright protected). copy the link' date=' paste that into the avatar jobbie on your profile, and, god-willing, it'll appear?

Is there any size limit on avatars loaded via links? Just curious as two of the avatars in question are above 130KB.
Well said Skye.

There has been a lot of debate around religion lately' date=' so IMHO I think the new avatars are just a childish attempt to continue to stir the pot.

There seems to be some perception that Christians are prudes -this is not the case -  and although I hold the view that p0rn is an addiction, but regardless of this, I would like to know how the wives and girlfriends would feel if they knew about some of the content.

Personally, I think that the deifinition of a real man is one that love Jesus and not one who has the most notches on his belt.  I choose to honour my wife every way.  I have no need or desire to look pictures woman in various states of undress.   Regardless of your belief, every person has a conscience, some moral compass.  Use that in considering what you are about to post.

Perhaps the most democratic way to solve this is have admin write the rules for posting.  As much as I enjoy reading and shopping on The Hub - (there are many great people here who have helped me build bikes at a reasonable price) if p0rnography is is listed as acceptable content then my choice will be to do my shopping elsewhere.

OOPS I am a Muslim, what does that make me, an unreal man?

Without being funny or stooping to make an emotional post, but this thread is there to stir.

Yes I have a SEXY avatar NO NUDITY NOTHING NADA ZILCH, if anyone sees a nipple or ANYTHING on my avatar I will remove it.

But to insinuate that I am not a chistian because of what I have posted, borders on hipocracy. Where sir/ madam do you have the right to decide who or what I am.  ( as you so rightfully quote the bible, I remind you of what Chtrist himself said and I quote"you have have no sin throw the first stone OR First remove the log in your own eye, before you try to remove the splinter from your neighbour"

With this I am not saying that I am without sin, no one is or will ever be.  But to try and justify what I do through your beliefs is hipocritical.  I do not judge you, and as such you have no right to judge me.

Is it just me or has the Hub become a bitch and moan forum, maybe people are not getting it at home and are then so frustrated that they come and bitch and moan on the Hub.   Or other people at work are now so used to the bitching and moaning, that these people have to now turn to other forums where they can bitch and moan in anomomity

Please people this is a forum for people with a cycling interest and just because my avatar is not cycling related, does not mean that I am not passionate about cycling.

To also insinuate that my wife is a perve because I have a sexy avatar is like calling her fat because I am overweight.

ClapClapClapClapClap

So you surf porn 'cos you are overweight.

I surf the HUB because I want a cycling forum and want a refuge from the crazy world of crime, politics, religion, peadophiles, murderers,..........etc.

Personally not offended but would prefer the avatars to be kept in line. Where that line is is debatable but there are certainly some that do cross it.

KEEP IT CLEAN!

To a point I agree with you, but then, when last did you make a cycling related post on the hub?
