TXS cyclist Posted May 15, 2008 Share I must say it is getting a bit of a problem especially in an open plan environment I work in. have to agree on that, especially the open plan. People tend to see the avatar, make their own conclusions, without seeing that u actually on a cycling forum. The hub has really taken a nosedive the last couple of months.. Tumbleweed Posted May 15, 2008 Share HR' date=' in all honesty there are a number of old hubbers who hardly come on anymore - they pop in for a few minutes int he evening every now and then but that's it. they can't come on in office hours anymore because of the smut (work environment issues) and it takes them a few hours to find cycling related topics because the threads are all wayyyy off cycling subjects within a post or two. smut and unnecessary / uncalledfor hijacking are dragging thehubsa down [/quote'] fair enough, but i have those work environment issues too and have worked around it. the point is the hub is still growing in terms of members. maybe the solution if for admin to remove the chit chat thread from "active topics". it's been done before. fact is - and i am by no means belittling the opinions of anyone - there are a lot of hubbers who rarely post about anything (cycling or otherwise), except to complain about other hubbers; or post ad nauseam about the same good/bad cycling experiences they have had; take a dig at campy/shimano; call david millar/lance armstrong/robert hunter something rude; etc, etc? RaceChick Posted May 15, 2008 Share Maybe we should keep emotions aside and stop complaining about other peoples opinions. Everyone has a right to what they like and dislike let's stick to cycling then.

ewep Posted May 15, 2008 Share I think Admin needs to make a decision on this one because we can argue for hours on end' date=' its his house after all we should abide by his rules. I personally would prefer not seeing naked bodies on a cycling forum because there is seriously a million times more sources for that on the internet than there is for a good old cycling discussion. For those that are tired of talking bikes there is the chit chat forum where we can do just that, but i'd like to be able to browse this site at work and at home without my colleagues and wife / child thinking i'm browsing for porn. [/quote'] where?? The free ones I mean!! Delgado, the PM doesn't allow me to send 30 000 lines!!!!!! Call me ok.

racman Posted May 15, 2008 Share Ok how about this suggestion? Admin starts a special clubhouse for all those who want to perv, insult, hijack (can one actually hijack a post about hijacking ???) or generally get low down and dirty. Admin can decide on the screening criteria for this "clubhouse" or whether it is subscription based. The clubhouse could be called: "Below the Belt" or to be more cycling orientated: "Down by the Chamois"! Anyone who posts unacceptable posts outside the clubhouse is banned for 1 month. And by the way, I am going to probably be flamed by both sides for this but I am one of those who spend far less time on the Hub now. I think it should be rebranded as "a general chat forum also frequented by people who happen to cycle" and not "the centre of cycling in south africa" !! But then again I am a little selective when choosing threads to open by waiting for the pop-up window to see the initial post. By choice I browse the race reports, classifieds (although it is also becoming less cycling related by the day as well. I remember the time I tried to sell my son's motorcycle on the hub and was inundated by "pm's" telling me to advertise on Gumtree, Bikefind, ThinkBike etc (I got the valid point !!!!!).)and anything else cycling related. Yesterday I was bored and was "infected" by HR's "boredom" threads (pure and unadulterated "drivel" but he does do it well and like no other!!!.No offence HR but I can see you have been bored for a few days/weeks/months now ) and decided to post something cycling broadly cycling related but also scoring on the "drivel" meter. Removed it after 9 views because I noticed there was enough nonsense already on the hub. The point is this. The hub has always had the odd stirring or nonsense post or thread which have been quite humorous and entertaining (Hey, I have even started some as well), but it is becoming more difficult to find the cycling related threads amongst the junk nowdays. If this is truly "the centre of cycling in south africa" as it states above, then we should be seriously concerned about the future of our sport !!! P.S. The above has not been checked for spelling or grammar mistakes. If you notice any please put a message in a bottle and throw it in the ocean, rather than pm or highlight it over the next 20 posts (don't forget to let go the bottle when you throw now !!!!) Holy, that Pineapple thread was the most fun i've had in a long time, i don't think that cycling vs non-cycling is the issue, its just a problem opening a thread and having a "camel toe" staring at my female boss as she walks past. Maybe we should have a warning tag in the title of a thread, like <risky> so we know not to open it.
