Best MTB Tyres Confidence

Hi,

Is the Rocket Ron, Racing Ralph still the go to combo for racing?

My current thinking is Ron and Ralph, 2.25 front and back at around 1.6bar.

So my question is: What else is out there that comparesor is better?

I am needing something that is confidence inspiring.

Not too worried about longevity.

Most of the racing will be marathon type stuff and spruit rides.

Bike is Epic, 100mm travel front and back.

Thanks

Back: Spez Fast Track, Conti Race King or Maxxis Ikon

Front: Spez Ground Control or Conti X-King

Ive had run Fast Tracks on both my Epics, not a fan of the Spez profile.

I just put Fastracks 2.1 front and back on the bike for the Desert Dash (which was a huge mistake) but they give me about as much confidence as Kurt Cobain had when he was sober.

Will take a look at the Conti options....

Thank you!!

I would never consider a fast track on the front.... ever....

Conti have never let me down.....

Not your question but I am now running 2.3 Ground Control on the back and  2.3 Purgatory on the front on 30mm internal Easton ARC 30's and they are chunky and have buckets of grip at 1.5 bar - But this is for trail riding, not marathons or anything remotely fast......

On my Rocky Element, I run Spez ground control 2.3 up front and 2.1 ground control on the back. Great tyre for most conditions, but the muddy stuff.

Oh and 1 more point on the Spez tyres, they are so damn well priced at around R550........

Never had great experiences with Schwalbe..... just seems to puncture so easily, maybe I was unlucky because so many other people love them so they cant be bad.

I guess there are so many options out there depending what you ride, how you ride etc. During both my Cape Epics I rode Conti protection X-Kings and I will never ride anything else in those kind of conditions. Totally indestructible.

Haven't tried the Ralph/Ron, had a Ralph/Ralph which was pretty washy on the front.

Currently got Ralph/Barzo (which I used for the muddy Sani2C Trail this year) and was pretty happy. Will be going Saguro/Barzo when the rear wears out. On CWC sales you pick the Vittorias up for around R500.

Haven't tested many tyres though, but I had a Spez fast track and ground control on the SS which lasted 1 ride on the Spruit.

I'm about to slap an Onza Canis 2.25 FRC on the back and Ibex 2.25 FRC on the front (stock 19mm wheels). I have only heard good things. Probably not the most racy combo, but definitely confidence inspiring. For a more racy combo, try the Canis C3 on the front and the Onza Svelt C3 on the back.

I ride xc started with ron/ralph and switched to onza canis front and back - with scalpel mho is  canis rolls faster than ralph and better front grip than ron as front progressively gives away rather than just grip/ no grip from ron

schwalbe wont see me again

marathon/cross country Barzo up front for sure. i tried conti's/ ron's/ ralphs but if you want confidence inspiring then Barzo! at the back Ikon T/R or Saguaro

I must say that skin sidewall option looks pretty cool. (This is a very important factor for a dirt roadie)

Put maxxis crossmark on, pump to 3bar, ride that for a month or so then put on something like conti race kings run at a human tyre pressure and enjoy...
