What tires and how hard you plan to run them really defines what you could use - I run a set of Spez mtb alloy rims on my cotic - but I never plan to run anything past 4 bar on them - works just fine for me.

Im not sure about pressure to be honest.

This whole CX/Gravel grind is pretty new to me.

I am wanting to do races like the Swartberg/Hell n Back on it. The idea would be to race them, does that help with the pressure question?

4 bar is plenty hard for gravel if you ask me - I have some nice Ritchey extra thick tape on carbon bars, and that certainly helps the hands a bit.

If you set 4bar as an upper limit, then you could use pretty much any mtb rim - clearly not the super wide ones... (and I am assuming you don't have rim brakes) - given that the wheels are properly built and tensioned I don't really think there is much to be gained performance wise from the rim (not really going to take any big knocks) - but certainly a quality hub set will be a good thing  (I have a hope addiction)

Notubes have some nice cx rims - but sourcing cx rims locally is a bit of an issue - so that was why I decided to go the mtb rim route.

Thanks so much! That really helps.

This is a nice rim if you wanted to go the handbuild route, or even to buy it as a complete wheelset. Slightly over your budget.....Send me PM if interested

Im using my old velocity VXC hoops on hope pro 2's

Basically a good old school xc wheelset put to good use again.

Hand built wheels last lifetimes in my experience and that is the way I will always do wheels.
