Also get up at 4am, on the IDT at around 4:30 (waiting for the wife to get up LOL) and then do 1 hour a day.

If you do proper IDT sessions, you will get big results.

For me its too difficult to leave it for the evenings as if you have a rough day, long day or any day that is not 100% perfect, I tend to skip the training.

Get it over and done with before your day starts

Good luck, as the beginning is quite hard. Manageble after a few weeks though

I often find my best after work rides are when I've had a k@k or stressful day...such a good way to blow off steam!

Getting up at 4am for an IDT?? Go get yourself checked out!! PM me, I know a good therapist.

If I get up at 4am, which I do often, it's to ride outside and have coffee with mates.

But 4am IDTs?? Would rather kill myself.

I go ride after work as I already go to the gym in the mornings - only problem is the wind usually picks up in the afternoon, and in Paarl it gets hot! No one worth working for is going to hold you to it if you knock off at 5pm twice a week. It's much easier for me to working a 2+ hour ride in that way.

In winter my boss and I have an agreement, when the sun is shining, we go riding.

That worked fine for me until the kids came...

I get home at 5h30pm and it's happy hour with 2 nagging toddlers and a tired wife and I tell them - hello and cheers - I'm going cycling for 2 hours - what could possibly go wrong...

Set a week goal of 5 to 6 hours per week. That will keep you fit enough to do most events .Find extra time before an event and increase that to 10 hours per week for stage events or if you want to improve substantially .I use whatever is available ,but very seldom train in the early morning before work .IDT and spinning is part and parcel of the weeks time goal

Jurgens races A batch. He needs to train way more than that.

I have been in and out of A batch over the years and use the same routine. If an important event is coming up i will do 8 GOOD hours .A batch is way to dangerous for me even if i could keep up .Especially road events

You could make it a 20 year cycle

I work hard labour. Get up at 4:30 tues and Thursday. Do some quotes and paper work. Go out between 5:15 and 5:30. Get back around 6 to 6:15. Out pap on and go shower. Go to work at 7. Get home between 6 and 8 help with kids and settle fown around 9. Do admin if needed or just relax. Go to bed at around 11. Go out on Saturdays with my dad. Depends but usually arounf 5 to 6 ride for 2 hours. Go work get home when ever finished usually 5 pm. Help with kids. Go to church and rest on Sundays. I skip a day every now and then. Mon wed and fri day is core training and some other exercise( running, skipping. Looking at rowing also.) i tried idt but i have a cheap one that doesnt even get my heart rate above 110. And its emotionally tiring. So i go out side.

The other trick is to be a pro from 16-24, then re think life , get job, then only do races and beat the guys putting in 10-12 hours a week :/

Welcome to the real world.....

Personally I prefer training after work, either on the IDT in the dark wet moments (months) or on the road in the months when we have longer daylight hours.

Training for cycling is easy.... trying to fit in multi disciplines in a working week.... now that's a problem

What is your Honours in?

Is fitchefs' pricing worth it when compared to buying and cooking your own food?

Bsc Geoinformatics(GIS) small degree in terms of numbers but a lot of crossover with IT.

It is expensive compared to cooking, you can go and prepare your weeks food on a sunday and then just reheat all week, but that is a mission in my opinion.
