How long can you sustain max HR?

Well, you could never black out 'cause your brain will force your body to stop before any damage is done. You know, linked to the "central governor" theory. So, when you take stimulants like caffeine or some mind altering drug, you fool your brain into thinking all is okay and hence you're able to exercise/compete harder for longer, but not that hard that you pass out.

Max HR is elusive

Sometimes get there; often not

And it can be seconds.

Now 95-100% of HR

I train hard to be there as long as possible

I thought i knew my max hr until the day i rode away from two chaps chasing me with BIG knifes trying to take my bike.

My max+ experience was during a crash in a sprint finish. Jumped with blind faith and landed on someone's back wheel. Barely held on and registered a couple beats higher on HR than ever seen before

I did a Vo2Max and my Max HR according to tests is 176Bpm. I have an Defibrillator and i went for a checkup/download the other day look at some of my HR data

I did interval training on the IDT and my Garmin never recorded any of these figures:

48s @ 176 bpm

31s @ 222 bpm

24s @ 214 bpm

Heart Rate is scary stuff and the best of it all i gave the dr a nice break down on my high HR as and when i trained etc etc and to this day no feedback??

I can hover around 175 no problem going to 185 when pushing but have seen 192. I have decided to keep max at 190 and try to not go higher than high 180s... I did see over 200 once when I was not so fit and pushing too hard. but then a family member did damage to his heart doing the same thing and I decided not to ever go that high again.
