Durbanville farm route

Hey guys.

I will hopefully be getting my new bike this weekend, and now that I have finally moved to the northern suburbs aka Boerie Curtain, I was told that there is a farm in the Durbanville area were one would pay a small gate fee and be allowed to ride there for the day.

Anybody heard of such a farm? Also, how safe is it?

I would appreciate it if you guys can recommend any other places to start? For now it will just be myself and my son, so nothing jumpy or "hillie", just a nice slow cruise.

The lungs and knees aint that good anymore  :whistling:

I think Bloemendal will suit you guys better than Meerendal would.

The "B Spot" is the ideal loop to ride to get your fitness and confidence up. You can then explore more of what Bloemendal has to offer, as you progress.

All of this in one safe and cost effective spot.

Think the day fees is in the region of R30.00 pp for the day.

To clarify, B-spot is an easy single track trail (quite short), Meerendal would have the normal farm roads & jeep track if you want to avoid single track. So it depends on what you want to do.

Bottelary also have nice & easy farm roads but the route can be a bit confusing if you ride it for the first time

Conterman's Kloof if you're looking for something a bit more challenging than Meerendal and Bloemendal is about R40 per day and then of course Hoogekraal - 40 or 50 bucks which is another little bit more difficult. I ride them all regularly and they are all a blast!!

There are also group night rides at Bloemendal. It sounds quite lekker. Also new to the area so haven't tried it out yet.

Have tried it, it is lots of fun, have also done the ones that they hold at Meerendal.

And when you done with Meerendal / Bloemensdal / etc... .head over to Bottellary MTB route. It is really fun and not not that technical and there is a very nice green loop you can start off with (park at Hazendal)

Meerendal has a few coffee and breakfast spots - winner  :w00t:

Definitely a more varied terrain there too

This part !!

Bloemendal would be best suited, youngster can hone his skills in safety, while Daddy exercise his lungs a bit more.

It is not just B Spot (singletrack there), you can ride a fair amount of jeeptracks also. Then there is Lombards Terra, etc also.

Once he is "up to standard" he can graduate to the other more demanding trails/farms.

Ja Meerendal gets my vote for a beginner over Bloemandal - more distance possible - you can spend a good 15k without going on any singletrack and if you want you can do the easy singletrack sections on the green route. And as Dale says - nice food and drinks afterwards.

Lombards is quite technical for a newbie and I remember the B spot scaring the helll out of me when I rode there with Thor for the first time. And also just remembering I left some skin at the top of Lombards on that occasion and came home swearing off mountain biking .... that didn't last, now I'm obsessed.

And the jeeptrack at Bloemendal I would classify as "hillie" which is I would opt for Meerendal for a "nice slow cruise"
