What Crank - Upgrade

Hi fellow hubbers

I'm in the process of doing some upgrades from my Deore XT m8000 to XTR m9000.

I already have rear derailleur, shifter and brake set.

Now the crank....

Do I fit a XTR crank to match or do I go for a Sram XX Eagle crank(because light weight and CARBON!).

My worries is the chainring, will the Shimano 11 speed chain work on this setup?

I see on some forums they claim the 11spd sram will work perfectly, but not sure if the shimano would....

My frame is BB92 so the rotor rex1.1 crank I wanted to fit is a no go :(

Would like to hear your thoughts on this....

I would go with the sram crank for the following reason:

With Sram direct mount rings you can get away with different offsets and often sizes that are not available for other bolt patterns.

The options are greater with DM chain rings!

Sram because you have a much wider range to pay with than the Xtr, this will improve in the coming months but for now i'd go with the sram.

I'd probably still go with sram next year , pity about the Rotor crank those are killer  :o

Maybe look at raceface aswell

I am big fan of the XTR. I run the M9000 on two of my mountain bikes. Having said that though, you have more options with the Sram crankset with regards to different chainrings, and the direct mount looks great. I run my old XX1 crankset on a project bike with a Race Face direct mount chainring. Looks great, and chainrings are easily accessible and less expensive than the XTR chainrings.

Last thought... If you are going full XTR, a Sram crankset will look out of place. Both Sram and Shimano 11speed chains are compatible.

Raceface Next?

Can you not use the Rotor PF4130 BB for the Rex? It allows a 30mm spindle in a standard pressfit shell. Never done it, but that's my understanding. http://reviews.mtbr.com/first-look-rotor-rex-1-1-crank-and-1x-chainring.

https://www.evobikes.co.za/rotor-pf4130-bottom-bracket-for-bb86-and-bb92.html

If that doesn't work, the mtbr link suggests you can get a 24mm Rex?

Yes you can get the Rotor Rex3 with standard 24mm axle but they don't import them (paragon I believe)

Also not 100% sure of the bb30 with bb92 as there is little space for bearings, will check it out thanks!

Race face next SL G4 was also on the cards but some reviews show the aluminum inserts broken from the carbon-Thus the reason to maybe consider the sram

Not sure on why you say Rex 1.1 wont fit?

Rotor makes a BB4130 Pressfit Bottom Bracket for BB92 frames...

The are R595 each.
