Tick tick noise when peddling

Hi,

I have a "tick" noise emanating from my 2-year old hard-tail mtb when peddling that's driving me nuts   When the peddle-stroke is at a certain position, the noise is heard. Ive changed pedals, checked cleats arn't loose,  seat post is lubricated & tight with no cracks. Bottom bracket lubricated & tight. Sprayed lubricant on every moving part. Inspected the frame for cracks & checked all bolts are tight. Where to now...., any ideas???

are you running 1x or multi-ring front? I found a similar issue only when on the middle ring on my wifes 3x crank and the chain was just catching a chain pickup on the big ring on every rpm when in the smallest cassette cogs. There wasn't really a remedy - she needs all 3 front chainrings

May be your saddle....oil the rails where they insert into the saddle front and back

Welcome Rock-Hopper

Well i can tell you, when I had a squeak i set about checking everything like yourself, then i came  across a post that said "check the saddle rails" my first thought was "what a load of shyte" Then i decided take the saddle off, clean the rails down, clean the seat post where the rails join. NO More Squeak.. I couldn't believe it, apparently just the smallest speck of dirt can do this... So go give that a go... It worked for me.

Good luck with it.

Where in the pedalstroke is the noise occuring? Is it when the most force is being put through the crank (i.e. where either crankarm is at 45 degrees? Does it occur if you stand and pedal? Does it still occur when your drivetrain is completely clean and lubricated - i.e. chain and chainring taken off and cleaned carefully?

Had a similar problem, not even a bike shop could locate it. I woke up in the middle of the night with a light bulb moment

Ran and checked the bike at 2am. I was right. It was a cracked saddle.

dirty seatpost

This is what always happens to my bikes. The noise is caused by the bottom end of the seatpost as it moves ever so slightly from side to side as I pedal.

Dry threads on the pedals where they connect to the crank. Put a little bit of carbon grease on the thread. This is what drove me nuts after being told and sorting out the seat post.

add a grain of sand down the seat tube and pedal = tick tick tick
