borderline- medium or large frame

Do you race? Would the new frame have the same geometry?

Word on the street is if in the middle take the smaller one.

But take your current measurements and see if it will work on a medium. For example, seat post can't be too far out.

Ride them and see what feels better - I am borderline medium/small and medium was MUCH better for me on my epic - took me about 10 minutes of riding to think the medium was better and about 3 hours of riding the demo machines to know it.

Go large with a shorter stem... Much more fun if you aren't a racing snake..

Edit: corrected my mistake!! Should have said 'large' originally!!

As AndyDude said, depends a bit on the geometry, and the type of riding you do.

I am borderline Medium/Large, and spent the first 20 years of my adult cycling life on a Medium.  Couple of years ago I couldn't get a Medium of the bike I wanted, and went with a Large.  Long story short, a couple of bikes later I am still very happy with my Large bikes.  Best decision ever.

If you like the longer rides, a larger frame with shorter stem is probably the way to go (IMHO).

I am borderline between medium and a large frame. Is it better to go for the smaller size?

i thought I was borderline too, turned out to be an expensive mistake as the frame ended up being too small where the Seatpost was concerned, yes geometry was different but you quickly adapt.

Depends on the brand. Every brand sizing is different. So in some a medium might be 17inch in others maybe 16 inch. If I remember a Spez medium is 17,5 inch. So don't just go by medium or large. Get the actual measurement and then decide.

I always err on the smaller than larger. More control.

Thanks for the advice guys, I am going for the large Pyga 110

Good choice - this bike definitely needs a shorter stem! Ran a 50mm ODI stem on mine and on my Stage, and running a 35mm on the 120.

How tall are you and what sort of discipline are you talking about?

I rode mediums for too long being 1,79m, always thinking i liked how compact they are. I was wrong. I have now switched to large throughout and have run shorter stems on the MTB's which has lead to much better riding.

You can't stretch a medium with seatposts and stems - it creates an ill handling mess.
