I am ridding on a set fitted to Industry 9 hubs - love them, no issues. Pricier than most chinese imported hoops but the fact that they are local, friendly bunch who support their product swayed me to rather opt for them.

Aren't they made locally though?

Why not...

I'm not basing this at all on performance.

But production costs for mass produced items will always be lower than others.

South probably produce 1000 wheelsets a year (guess) while xyz factory in China 1000000 a year (also a guess).

If you take that into account it's logical too see why they'll be more expensive than Chinese wheelsets. In my opinion.

Edit: To answer OP's question, I have only test ridden a pair and they were great, unfortunately outside my budget.

Yeah friend of mine had a set fitted to his Cannondale Si1 team and both seem to be cracked after not even 300km on the wheel set....they also refuse to repair or replace them so not really impressed at all.

Wanted to see if it was maybe an isolated incident or not

Buy a South Ind wheel and you know that you are getting a quality product with good back up.

Buy a Chinese no name and you don't know what you are getting in terms of quality, you have to deal with someone in a different time zone , who can barely speak English.

That is why Chinese no names are cheaper

Any photos of the damage?

Carbon wheels from all manufacturers crack when abused or take a hard knock.

Where can I get some pricing on the Chinese imports?

Sounds to me as if the wheelbuilder stuffed up. Obviously it goes without saying that you need to have them build by a reputuable wheelbuilder
