HenryS Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I am interested to see what the majority of Hubland prefer in terms of nutritional and energy supplements during races and/or for training. This poll is specifically about commercially available products and not home made mixes. If I have left anything out in the poll, then please mention it in the comments. Multiple choices are allowed if you have more than one preference.
Andrew_Smith Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Following this thread as I want to start using nutrition (drinks) but really not sure which brand would be the best bet. Have tested Cadence CarboFuel and Biogen for the recovery drink.
Paddaman Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I find that in races and training for more than 4 hours that energy drinks are very, very, very counter productive. The problem is that in LSD rides, the body sweats out more water and hydrates than the amounts that are in the drinks (according to the mix instructions). This results in a lot of sugars in the belly and no water or hydrates to transport them. This causes a bonk which can only be reversed with water and hydrates. Also drink mixes clog up water bladders making hygiene and cleaning difficult. I find separating energy consumption from hydration more manageable. Rehydrate and water in bottles and water in Bladder. Energy is consumed in bar (slower release) and gel (faster release) or tablet. Real food is King for the really long rides. However, for shorter races and high intensity riding having a energy drink mix in the bottles may be the best and only solution. You do not want to be fiddling with bars and sachets as you enter a singletrack.
mecheng89 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Liquids - Water + Rehidrat during IDT sessions, USN EpicPro for long outside rides + races. Nutrition - Gozo during races, bananas and peanut butter bars during training.
Fruity Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Been sticking to USN Vita Blitz for the past few years. When it comes to liquid, Isotonic Game, but thought of trying something else - USN Winners Energ. Thinking of getting a tub of USN Pro Enduro, but that will be for longer rides. Edit: I've just read that the Pro Enduro has Beta-Alanine, which can cause tingling. I think I'll stick to the Vita Blitz and Isotonic Game. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk

Eveza Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Nutritech Endurade for energy drinks. Tried most of the other brands and of all the brand I find that Endurade and Key360 works the best for me.

Fruity Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Note to self: Don't take Vita Blitz just before your evening gym session. It works with the workout, if you're feeling drained from the day, but you battle to fall asleep. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
ians H2Sport Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Won't use anything with artificial colorants & flavorants, preservatives, additives etc. All we really need is the right carb mix and electrolytes; and real food for long rides/events.

Fruity Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 100mg caffeine, that's probably why. And it says on the package, 'Energy for Hours' - I should have remembered that.
