was there any email info sent out about the event?  if so, i didn't get it.

do we just proceed to the venue and register there?  from what time?

Yup, was few emails from PPA about it.  (There been at least 3)

Cannot say about what time registration opens, but would pitch about 1 hr ahead of time , last sportive queue was about 20 - 30 minutes.

Arrived early - minimal queue at the crapper, minimal queue to get my little green sticker, minimal queue to get my coffee from Seattle - looked, minimally, like a good day.

Having learned from previous humiliating drop in first 1k at the last race I did a proper warm up including 2 sprints and 5 minutes of high cadence whizzing. Anxious not to be dropped, I lined up at the front of HIJ start group, made sure I was in correct gear and off we went.

It was great while it lasted - flying along - kept hovering around 5th to 10th wheel - did two heroic pulls at the front. I looked down at my garmin - 30k done, average speed 38kmph, heart rate in the 85% ballpark. I saw my Argus seeding boosted, I felt like a pro rider with fresh blood and an injection, I was planning how I was going to make it over the Riebeeck Kasteel hill while keeping in touch with the group when ..... ---- PUNCTURE.

So I do the proper thing - I swear loudly and put my hand up because I'm in the middle of the peleton. Some box rides past me telling me to get out the way. I swear again.

I have to do something about how quickly I can change a tube. The next group swished past as I got the new tube into the tyre. The next one as I finished pumping it up and putting it on the bike.

60k of chasing down stragglers and solo riding thinking about what could have been. I tried being philosophical about it. I tried being grateful for the opportunity to ride in such a beautiful place. I tried every trick in the book but even my baked potato with salt and butter couldn't clear the bitter taste of disappointment and frustration from my palate.

Well organised event though - more toilets than last time - big plus - excellent marshaling from the guys on the motorbikes - well done PPA.

Sorry to hear about your puncture. Unfortunately that is part of cycling. Weather was perfect today. Lets hope the next one will be the same. If you could stick that much longer with your group, you should be happy. That means you are getting better. Good luck next time. Edited by Breezer

I saw a few Savages there - one had dark rings under his eyes, I just thought it was from being parent to babies.

Going to be a little rough on Sunday, had a big day out on Thursday, legs are a little stiff

Knowing Mamil as I do, and given his ridiculous improvement recently, I am beginning to suspect he is hiding his tricks in plain sight. His partner is a vet... #EPOL #needles

Best investment I made in my mountain biking was buying my Trek Domane road bike - roadying boosts fitness faster than the MTB I find.

Thanks for the highlight Dale!!

And Thor ...

After my third "whinney" she said, "stop horsing around - just 'cos you think you're hung like one doesn't mean I'm going to pony up with the illicit drugs.". I shook a forelock at her and stamped a hoof. "But I'm the mane ou." I complained. "All things being equine, you're an ass" she replied.

Seriously - the improvement is because I stopped being a weekend warrior and went from 2-3 rides a week to 4-5 rides a week. Averaging about 9-12 hours a week these days.

Now - once I gain control of my boarding school nutrition mentality (if it's there eat it as fast as you can and as much as you can before someone else does) ... I'll be knocking on G, dare I hope F?

Perfect conditions and a well organised event. Really appreciated the marshal on a moto and the supporters on the route.

I also had a puncture after finding a group to ride tempo with after Bots, so I also have some unfinished business here :)

chapeau, PPA!
