Servicing Specialized

Not true. I know of 2 cracked frame warranty claims on bikes the owners serviced themselves. Both replaced no problem. The only proprietary thing on a Spez is the Brain, and they insist on that being serviced in Stellenbosch.

Get a wheels MFG BB when you replace it. I replaced my SRAM PF30 in my Epic with one of these and it has not missed a beat in the last 3+ years. The bearings are replaceable as they sit in an alu housing. It cost me like R800 back then. One of the best things I have done to my bike

Forgot to mention it in my post.

Got the threaded pf30 Wheels mfg BB. Same concept as the Enduro bearings BB, just much cheaper and same price as a sram p.o.s nylon/plastic pf30.

It is true. But we normally ask a customer if he wants his original unit back or a refurbished unit.

Own unit takes a day or 2 longer to get back.

Your choice though.

If a customer does not say we ask for original unit back so we don't run into any issues later...

BS none of the two shops I went to asked me that

Not completely true though. you have the choice of refurbished unit or your own unit.

the service form you need to fill in and sign at the store gives you the option.

again the shops I went to the choice was never presented

 Hi everyone,

We have taken note of this thread and understand your frustration.

We have invested heavily in our retailers and staff through SBCU (Specialized Bicycle Components University).

We are confident in their ability to service your needs, if you have any formal or direct inquiries, please give me a shout.

Thanks

Gareth

I have been told that when you send your brain shock in for a service...you do not actually get the same one back. You just receive a serviced unit back

i do not know how true this is though

Yes it is true, UNLESS you ask for YOURS then they service it and send it back but it can take longer.

NOT BS just the shop you went to did not know about it or did not care to inform you.

Just like MOST Specialized shops do not know that you have a lifetime warranty on the boa dials for spez shoes. You can just go online and order another set for your shoes FREE

Hi Coenie

Have you done this , or only heard of it ?

I just paid R 400 ( I think ) for 1 dial for my S-Works shoe !!

My BB just consists of 2 bearings pressed directly into the frame :(... PF30 according to manufacturers spec.

Fortunately when it started creaking it was just dirt trapped between the bearing and the crank seal, but damn I hate this design. I'm likely going to damage them if I ever try remove them to service.

Ordered a Wheels MFG one today. Will get it installed when I take my bike in next week and report back...

Can I order the Wheels MFG BB locally or can you only order this BB from their website and import it?  I need this BB.

It can easily costs R2k to fully service a normal shock and fork (together) including parts so the Spaz pricing inst that out of wack, depending on what they do for the money of course

A mate worked out that he spent R20k on bike services last year (S-works Epic as MTB option) vs R4k on 60,000kms service for his Audi.

Something seriously wrong with this sport, a bubble maybe?
