]that was one of the hardest but certainly most rewarding day i have ever had on a bike.
Our merry band of helpers set off at 07h15 from a cool Stellenbosch under clear skies with the promise of wind to come.
the first 90km sailed by with banter, laughter and and a welcome tail wind.
After the scheduled refuel at the base of Bothmanskloof Pass just outside Riebeck Kasteel we cruised up and over and rode smack into the headwind.
The next 75km were tough, the road surface was rough and the wind was constant and almost exclusive from the front.
The team did a great job of keeping David and I as protected as possible and i am very grateful for the many many many pushes received. There always a helping hand on the buggy or my shoulder and back.

6hr11 ride time and 6h40 in total for the 170km we made it back to Stellenbosch.

David was champ, he loved it and happily told his dad that not next year but Monday he wanted want to do it again.

please share as we are still looking for support in reaching our Fundraising goal for RAISING HOPE SA

To the all those who were part of the many many people enjoying the slip stream through out the day - you know who you are .....please think about a small "thank you" and help support this great cause.

Shot Dale!! Was a bit of a mare from our side. Punctures, illness, puncture, crash avoiding a cape cobra.

Was fun racing with mates, even though I punctured at 15km

Who was the DiData PRO rolling with Giant?

Just a question for You of the Order of Tarmac, what's the rule in these road races with attacking or overtaking into oncoming traffic?

Heading from Paarl to Jonkershoek yesterday I drove past most of the early batches and on the Simondium stretch had to swerve out for at least 5 cyclists trying to shuffle to the front of their bunch and in the process moved about a meter into oncoming traffic, which gets rather ridiculous when there are pedestrians skirting the side of a narrow road as well.

The White Wall Rule applies:

Cyclists must treat the white line like a wall

When cyclists fight for survival with the Cape Doctor, many risks are taken. Every race.

Haven't puncture in a race since 2013 yesterday I punctured twice in 10kms

Big mistake was taking my time fixing the punctures, by the time I was back on the road all the "fast-ish" groups had passed and I also had a (mostly) lone 80km home into the headwinds.

Bit worried about my Argus seeding, this race used to be my seeding banker but for 2 years in a row I just can't catch a break with this one...

Awesome event, my first one and definitely not the last.

On my way home traveling on the N2 direction Cape Town, some idiot decided it's a good idea to stone the bike to get me to stop resulting in a cracked rim and fork :cursing:

I was so looking forward to the Durby dash

Does anyone go pick up the litter after the event? I doubt it.

Then why do people just shrug their shoulders after accidentally dropping their empty powerade bottle? Then a few km's further, what is going through your mind when you decide that the farm kids on the side of the road would appreciate your other empty powerade bottle thrown at their feet?

Yeah wtf! Saw a number of "pro's" throwing away empty water bottles/ powerade bottles early in the race - who exactly is supposed to pick up your rubbish???
