You would be AMAZED to see how many riders that venue pulls.

The organisers for the Panorama and Vets Tour's playground that.

Good routes and not a lot of cars.

Actually contemplating doing it now............

Hi Spinnekop

Lot of speculation yesterday on a possible route (laps???)  Flat or mountainous?  Can you please share your thoughts?

Thx

Also wondering yes...........

If I were to take a Scientific Wild Ass Guess, this would be the route I would think they are going to do..........

1 Lapper for the shorter rides.

2 Lapper for the Vets Cats

3 Lapper for the Elites

Not perhaps Swadini rd, left onto r531, to r527, then left onto Jonkmanshoek rd. About 30km, add in and out of Swadini another 10km. Perfect lap distance for all groups, even me I'm in

Was suppose to be in PE. Decided today to move.

SA's should be within a hour of the big airports. Having it in the middel of nowhere is just stupid.

Same will happan than the year it was in Outshoorn, almost no riders.

True story.  PE would've been good. Fly then race and not have to take my annual leave just getting to the venue.

Hoedspruit is a bad decision for SA Champs.

If was a person from the Western Cape or Eastern Cape I would be concerned. Never mind the plane ticket to OR Tambo. You still need to hire a vechicle and then drive over 400km to Hoedspruit.

Next issue is the weather in the Hoedspruit area. My guys did an event there in Feb. The temperature hit 45 degrees at 11am.

We event needs to be close to an airports. And I am not talking about a grass run. We need spectator friendly routes. The SA Champs in Pretoria had the atmosphere of a stadium like enviroment. The crowds at the Union Buildings and up Tom Jenkins were awesome.

Now you want to take the event to Hoedspruit. HOEDSPRUIT.

Question............Why is Bloemfontein not considered?

Fairly central?   There should be some cellphone tower we can climb up to on a lap?

I think this "sharing is caring" thing to host SA's is overrated.

Have it central and in main cities. ie. Johannesburg, Durban, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Cape Town etc.

If I had a say in it..............

Have ONE race, ONE event for the Elites only.  Proper Nationals event.  Have every big event help you host it, Carnival, CTCT, Tshwane, etc.

Only Elites.

Have it AFTER the main funrider event at around 11am.

Nice spectator base and worsbroodjie stalletjies are already there.

Then for the age cats you have 5 events spread over SA and your best 3 times count.  Winner takes the spoils.  Sort of a "SA Cup" if you want.

But that's just me............

You can fly into Nelspruit - good airport. But yes, it is a trek.

One must adapt to the heat, part of the prep, just like for Oudtshoorn or Wellington.  Most places in RSA is moer hot in Feb.

The thing is, a return flight to Nelspruit from Cape Town is about 7 or 8k... Joburg one can fly return for under 2k.

Having an airport and being accessible aren't always the same thing.

I get that it can't always be in a big city, but being accessible and affordable should be a concern.

Maybe shuttles and bike transport from OR Thambo could be organised? They did that for MacMac 100 miler and it's one of the only reasons I could enter. Booked my flight to Joburg and knew that I had transport to and from the race pre arranged.

So it's not impossible to set up.....
