Are you not doing the 8 week thing for Waterberg Extreme?

Yes I am, but was away in Knysna staying at a very nice hotel, with lots of food and gin for 4 days, so lost my way a little :(

Results will be posted on Friday.

Also, as of yesterday, WaterBerg is not happening for me either :(

how are those summer bodies coming along?

its coming along, but might only be ready for summer 2019 :whistling:

weight and body fat % is at the lowest its been in about 12 years.

So after many years of no exercise, I took up cycling last year. Since then my legs look a lot better and my weight has come down from 110kg to 90kg. The problem I have is that the flippen fat around the middle just wont budge. My arms are as skinny as they can go, my legs are now basically just muscle and yet my gut still looks like I will take part in the hunger games to get first place at a buffet.

Anyone got advice on how to shift it? Diet is about as threadbare as it can go. I ride as much as I can. Any other exercise I should be doing? (first person to suggest planking gets slapped) Been thinking of trying jogging, but at 1,94m tall, I just look wrong when jogging.

Sorry came to this thread v late. Lots of informative banter so far. A couple of thoughts:

1. Congrats on the 20 kg loss! Seriously, we often forget to pat ourselves on the back on what we've done in the rush to achieve something else.

2. How do you know you've not lost some belly fat with your current approach to weight loss? Are you measuring it in someway? eg pinch test, belt holes, photos? You may find that you're already on the right path? We often get a 'complex' about belly fat and have a skewed view, literally and figuratively, about it, so it's not quite as easy to measure, track and control as overall mass.

3. Are you still looking to lose body weight? A body fat % assessment might help give you an idea of where you stand on this. It also depends on what your motivation is? Your body mass-index is 24, which would suggest there's scope (granted BMI is a bit outdated and flawed but it's a peg in the ground). Anyway there are a number of general weight loss threads on here which can be worth a read.

4. Diet - as suggested by others often a 'threadbare' diet can still be tweaked to assist with weight loss, so apps, a visit to a dietician etc may help.

5. Despite your reference to planks, often general body conditioning involving core work can help with posture control and improvement. You won't be specifically targeting belly fat, but rather toning the underlying structures which might give the appearance of less fat! Anyway the core work will help you on the bike as well, so it's worth considering for that alone.

Good luck!

Well, if it's true that you get strong on the bike, and lose weight in the kitchen, then you get weak OFF the bike, but what's the deal with getting fat IN the kitchen too???

Warren dont bother with the "blue-blocks" to keep the food cold.

Get a couple of those 300ml water bottles - drink a bit ... have about 250ml in the 300ml bottle.  FREEZE this.  Use this as your cold block ... it WORKS to keep the food cold, and by the end of the day you have some nice crisp cool water if needed.

takes a bit of planning to make sure you have the right stuff at the ready to pack lunch.  But it quickly becomes second nature.

My scale told me this morning I have 33% of body fat....so clearly not as good as I thought it was going. Worst is, thought I was entering 'the best shape of my life' time - hate to think where I was at in my worst

"scale" ... body fat ???  or is this some BMI type guestimate ???

You need something like a skin-fold test to get your body-fat percentage ....

Yes :) and I know, hence the giggle in the end....dad showed me from a young age the 'pinch test', funny I still tend to do it quite often (mostly for no other reason than to just make myself more aware I can be a pig to often and exercise too little!)

Talk about body fat though..... I have a question to ask you all about how you experienced it to 'break down'/go away... So in general I have quite 'hard fat', as in it doesn't wobble (if that is even a way of describing it). But I have noticed now with increase in running and decrease in bad foods (ice cream and chocolates) that it has become softer, as in if I pinch a handful in the fat areas it feels like I am more taking skin now with fat under it and not as if it is sticking to the bone anymore (around area below for instance)... please tell me this is a sign of it melting away..hahaha

Sounds like skinny fat to me.

Could be you're burning some fat, but not gaining any muscles - and/or probably losing some in the process as.

Or it can be estimated by a bioelectrical impedance scale - looks like bathroom scales with 2 contact points for your feet. Not an analytical grade approach but can be useful in tracking big changes.

I presume that that is what Hayley is using. If so, they have a reputation for being WILDLY inaccurate.

Inaccurate perhaps, but as long as they are repeatable, they can illustrate a trend (downwards of course!). At least mine does....
