Medical aid if the worst happens

So I did the ICE thing in my phone contacts years ago. But now my phone can only be unlocked via finger print or pin code and I don't think this unlock feature can be deactivated.

Most phones allow you to put a message on the lock screen. I have my ICE details on that.

I have done this on all my Samsung s as well as the wife's whauwe (spelling).

I know the new iPhone also has it. The old ones did not.

The recent firmware updates on the Samsungs have NOT been a step forward ....

between google and playing I am no closer than making an image for the lock screen ....

Having ICE details on lock screen.... Two questions... Do you have your ID number on there? What implication does this have if your phone gets stolen and someone now has your medical aid details?

In the event of a serious accident the EMS will transport you to the closest equipped trauma icu. This might be a government hospital, even if you have the best medical aid. I was involved in a car accident a few years ago, my wife provided all the medical details to the EMS crew, but they still transported me to a government trauma facility. You will only be moved to a private hospital when you are stable.

You are correct, it doesn't matter whether you on medical aid or not, they transport you to the closest hospital to receive attention and thereafter you are moved to private or government depending on medical aid etc.

Regarding ambulances there are so many private versions available now they usually have flat rate for non medical aid patients and medical aid patients don't pay as they claim from medical aid

I have the following on my ICE card :

- photo (so they CAN link the card to me)

- various contact names and numbers

- medical aid details

- some other numbers that I need, but which wont mean anything to anybody else reading the card

Next time you try to use your medical aid card, see how they ask questions about your address etc to ensure "you-are-you" .... so this info wont be much use to anybody else

Any of you ever had that crash feature on your garmin work for you?

This weekend I was out riding the tandem, we were cruising down a hill at about 60 coming up to a robot. I had started braking to turn right at the robot and it went yellow so decided to stop and braked a bit harder. Came to a stop and I hear this siren, I initially thought it was the robot making a noise for a blind person but then looked down and saw a message on my screen saying accident detection and had all my wife's details on the screen. Gave me to option to hold the enter button for 3 seconds to cancel it. I cancelled it but would have been interested to see what happened if I didn't.

Hello

I was informed by a paramedic , a friend of mine , and he said that if you do not have an Ice tag or Medical aid card or a app on your phone , the paramedic attending to the accicent will take you to the closed Goverment hospital.

Simply, you need something to talk for you when you can't. Phone, bracelet, whatever. Heck, get a tattoo if you like. Personally, I've gone with the ICEID bracelet and helmet tag. Peace of mind

I hear the German authorities are campaigning at the moment that people should investigate this on their phones as the paramedics here will look at at the phone first for ICE info when you can't speak.   Heard on an interview on the radio the other day how the ask people to get going with this.

I've had my 520 do that a few times under heavy braking as well. The I remember having to press a certain sequence of buttons to stop it. I haven't actually tested the function though - the wife would seriously stress out - but also interested to know what it does.
