Road riding around Mosselbay

So I am going to Vleesbaai near Mosselbay for a week and need to keep the legs turning over. 

 

Are there any roads that I can explore in the area on my road bike that are away from the N2? I could take the MTB instead if there are no decent quiet roads in the area.

Evan, the roads in the Vleesbaai area are more MTB friendly than road bike. They recently upgraded the main drag from the N2, but all the rest are still gravel. There is also much to explore on your MTB, especially towards Kanon,  Fransmanshoek and even Gouritz.

Take the MTB for sure. Little jaunts to George and Knysna will be very rewarding. Maybe ping Tunariaan as he's from that neck of the very pretty woods.

This map may help a bit. It's short on routes in Vleesbaai itself . But there must be plenty dirt roads south of the N2. Boggomsbaai ,Gouritz area.

Note the main road from N2 to Vleesbaai is tar not gravel. Map old.

Also consider Jakkalsvlei wines near Herbertsdale. You may have to detour to get there on gravel , but they have a decent restaurant and showers .

here is a cycling heatmap of vleesbaai, but its for both mtb and road, so just check what type of road it overlaps.

Being from Groot Brak, I would suggest that you bring the mtb with, loads of roads to ride from Vleesbaai/Boggomsbaai. You can put in a whole lot of kms on the mtb, even almost to Herbertsdale. Roadies do cycle from Vleesbaai towards N2, turn right towards Mosselbay, unfortunately on the N2 for a km or 3, then take left turn towards Herbertsdale/Jakkelsvlei wines.

We always stay on the Gravle from Vleesies sometimes straight across at the tar road and up to the N2.

Mostlly we do the ride to kannon and back.

We have done the ride through Gouritz and then along to the private reserve and back

also have also done the gravel road before Gouritz to Stillbaai.(lots of blind flies)

Have done the beach ride at low tide along past Boggoms and back.

I did a ride from Dana baai around the point and then towards Hartenbos. Took the R328 to 8 Bells. Turned off there and went to Herbertsdale.
