Riding with spectacles on a road bike

I've recently switched from riding a MTB on the road (with slicks) to a proper road bike, and the change has been amazing. I had no idea what I was missing all those years!

One thing is bugging me, however, and it's the fact that I wear glasses and they have become an irritation because of the low profile of my head while riding. I find that I am constantly looking over the top of my spec rims and I am having to push my glasses up all the time so that I can see through them, not over them!

Does anyone else have a similar problem, and what can I do about it? I've thought about getting prescription sports frames, but I was wondering if there are any other cheaper options.

There is a couple of optomotrist that put prescription in Rudy projects, otherwise I ride with my normal specs and tolerate the irritation

+1 for Rudy projects, been using mine for almost 5 years now.

Contacts? I ride with my (gas permeable lenses) on shorts rides they perfect however on long rides in excess of 5hours they sometimes itch because of the sweat that mixes with sunscreen.

Got myself one of these at Spec Savers this morning.

I used to have the same issue.

Started out with this same strap.

Then moved onto addidas with the insert. It works great if you looking straight but if you turn your head and look to the side past the insert then you have a blind spot, which I didnt like especially on the road.

I then moved onto a pair of oakley frames with prescription lenses. This works very well. However in low light you will struggle, unless you get a clear lens. The transition lenses didnt do it for me.

I always struggled to get contact lenses in my eyes. So I didnt bother, until about 2 years ago. The best decision ever. I dont have to constantly clean a lens. Works great too when I go fishing as you dont get see spray covering your spectacle lenses.

Contact lenses! Prescription sunnies effective when needed, but what about the earlier starts when not needed? Contacts work with any sunglasses. But, this is just my biased opinion!

I ride with Addidas Evil Eye shades with prescription inserts. One pair for MTB and one pair for Road, but they are identical in all but color.

Ive had these for a while and I'm very happy.

Yah, I also use the Adidas Evil Eyes with inserts for both running and cycling, one pair each as well. I think you been copying me.  :D  The only difference is my inserts are Bi-focal's so I can see ahead clearly and also read the small figures on both my Garmin's.

But Yes, I agree for me they work the best.

I also had the evil eyes with inserts but found a cheap pair of oakley riding glasses on a sale and had my optometrist make up some lenses and spray them with a hardening protection layer, they are far better as I can see everything and being sports glasses dont get the wind and sweat issues . The issue with a lot of sports glasses is the curve of the lens so if you source a pair without the heavy curve in the lens you can get script lenses made. Just get your optometrist to adjust the reading focal distance to enable you to read your bike computer clearly.

Okay, interesting, I'll look into it. The reason I liked the Adidas inserts is because they can be ground as Bi-focals by the optician, possibly other brands have the same now though,I am talking a few years back.

The only issue I find with the curved lenses here is that there is not a good airflow, so when its cold out then the heat from your face causes the lenses to fog up quickly, this means I have to continually lift the sunnies and let the air cool and clear the lenses. Its not an issue when I am running so much, but riding on the road especially its a hassle as you can quickly lose part of your vision due to the fogging.
