Rode this yesterday for the first time. Superb trail. Some of the nicest single track I've ridden in ages. Fast, flowing, really nicely done.

Agreed, I rode there mid-week last week and some sections did need a little compacting from some 'heavy-rollers' which hopefully came through on the weekend  :whistling:

But ya, so awesome to have a full MTB loop... and I must say, that off-camber winding downhill from the Top Circle to the big bridge near Toadbury needs some concentration...

An annoyance is that Strava still compares your ride to the road section.... would be great if it could pick up that you are indeed on a dirt trail a good few metres away from the road...

Perefctly safe to ride there any day.

We have been riding the initial trail for over a year and no issues.

Tomorrow we try the full loop off road for the first time.

Just be aware when you enter sections that are further from or not visible from the tar road (like on Malibongwe etc).

If in doubt just divert onto the tar for a while and then back onto the dirt when it looks safer......

I have a feeling that those tar road cross-overs are going to yield 'incidents', given enough time. I followed an off-roader the other day - I was on the road - and he sailed across the tar road without a look or a care. Turn up the radar on those sections lads and lasses whilst having fun.

Hope it wasnt me..   wasnt last week Wednesday right?

I reckon a few okes are going to come short on that downhill section from the Top Circle to the bridge before Toadbury........specially with some rain eroding away some parts.

I did yesterday... First time on that trail/section, was going as quickly as I felt comfortable, and realised I had someone right on my tail. There was a section with a small split and I tried to go left so he could take the right but my front wheel washed out from under me.... Lots of roasties and a lekker bruised shoulder and chest today. :D

We rode the new cradle route on Sunday morning - the bit from Valverde up past Walkhaven and then across to Bidon.

Quite irritatingly we rode into 2 guys on KTMs coming the other way (i.e. wrong way) down the trail past Walkhaven. I was a bit slow getting my phone out to take a picture, but the guys were clearly not interested in what we thought about them being on the trail.

What action would you take? It's not worth being the guy in lycra when you body-slam a biker into the ground in his full riding armour, but other suggestions are welcome.

Rode both Sat and Sunday in the Cradle, and what struck me was that a few people were riding without helmets.

Now these weren't some newbies on Macro bikes, they were proper bikes, and if I am not mistaken, ones was a fellow Hubber on his very nice Niner gravel bike (you naughty boy).

Now, my question is, is there some new "I'm against the grain" fashion statement happening, because I missed the memo.

The one guy was a on a stunning Cannondale SuperSix, no helmet, ironically he was however wearing compression socks..... when you have more calves than brains.

Hi Guys

We are looking to park n ride, coffee & light meal after - with something for the kids to do while Mom and Dad cycle for an hour or two (Kids will be with Grandparents) obviously we would prefer something that won't cost an arm and a leg as we need to keep 4 kids occupied....

We looked around and there is the Rhino/Lion Park that is over R100 entry per child, Sterkfontein Caves no different  , this is something we would like to do Bi-Weekly so any suggestions are welcome!
