This part of the road is between the finish at the top and the car park 8km below.

 

At the top there are literally hectares of space - as you can see in my photo. Certainly plenty of room to set up tents, park some team cars etc for the first finishers to be comfortable in until a police escort could escort them down either all together or in groups.

 

IMO - the policy of "make your own way back down lads" was not good one.

Not sure how throwing people off bikes is doing your job. Whether it's a professional rider or just a member of the public.

 

And anybody can buy a Sky rainjacket. That would not have made any difference.

I think CF thought the cop would know who he is and so did not stop and hence the cop grabbed an arm and brought him down. Had CF stopped as the cop asked and CF let the cop know who he was, all would have been fine. Had the bodyguard done his job then all would have been fine.

 

CF having a bad day in the saddle and expecting everyone to know who he is also led to the incident.

 

I say again, I dont think this was a deliberate act to bring down CF. It was a cop doing his job and as far as the cop was initially concerned the person he asked to stop did not stop and so the cop stopped the cyclist. It was only after the fact he realised it was a TDF cyclist.

 

EDIT: Maybe the kit would not have made a difference. But you have to concede that dressed like he was CF looks just like another fan riding down the hill which they were not supposed to do.

I'm guessing the combo of a fat body guard, unclear Sky kit, an overzealous cop and a pro rider not expecting to be stopped by a cop caused a mole to turn into a mountain.

According to a news article I read, the was a reason the SKY team bus could not get to the finish. (I think it was because they were late. ) I don't think this was SKY's plan.

Again we're making assumptions here without knowing exactly what happened. We don't know whether the cop asked Froome to stop or whether he just thought it's just a fan so I'll bring him down. Either way, it doesn't justify throwing him off the bike. If he'd let Froome through there would have been another cop couple of hundred metres down who could have also asked him to stop.

With all the security issues and the incidents that has already happened I think the police and other security was already highly stressed. I think the organisers have been grilling them continuously.

I dont think he was thrown or purposely brought down. The intention was to stop the person. That was the cops job, stop people riding down the hill. I think he did not obey the cop to stop, the cop grabbed the bike or arm to make the cyclist stop and down he went.

 

If it was my job to stop people, and the cyclist I requested to stop did not listen to my request order, I too would grab the bike or arm.

 

Throw off? I doubt it.

 

Moral off the story, does not matter who you are, always listen to the policemen in france

I'm not sure any team busses made it to the actual finish. I think everyone had to make their way back down the final 8km of the climb to the car park.

 

Either way, could have been better thought out when you consider that this is billed as "The Biggest Race on the Planet" and look at the money involved.

Terrible leadership

While he talks he way he talks, his riders are out there exposed to the fans in the mountains.

For every action that is provocative, there'll be a reaction that create potential risk.

 

Let's place some responsibility at Amaury Sport Organisation for not organising themselves well enough to protect these elite athletes.

Camera straps, flares, ignorant security officers and poor access control, to name a few gaps.

Leaders and public figures have tremendous influence

Public figures in a tense space need to be far more responsible with their uttering and stance 

Brailsford was offensive and derogatory and this ripple effects

 

Is he a girl. Dunno.
