Faircape loop distance?

Hi All

Can anyone tell me what the total distance and elevation gain of the Faircape loop in Durbanville is? Can't find details on the club's website or on the Facebook page.

As I understand it you can link up with the Welvergenoegd loop from that side which means you effectively skip Hoogekraal?

I'm trying to plan a ride, but at my current fitness level I need to restrict my ride to 20 - 25kms, or I may end up spending the whole weekend in the hills...

Thanks

Soz, but not sure of the distance. But the turnoff to Fair Cape is on the Welvergenoegd climb up to Patrick's Plunge. So you have to do all of Hoogies to get there. I believe however you can start from the tar road by skipping Hoogies.

What Rusty said - if you are unfit I would say cut out the Hoogekraal bit and just do the loop from Adderley road. you need to be fairly fit if you want to include the Hoogekraal section as well.

I've done Hoogies and Welvergenoegd and although it was tough, I made it without too much trouble (apart from the snake I encountered). What I was thinking of doing was starting at Faircape on Malanshoogte (if that is possible) and then doing Welvergenoegd and Faircape.

Can be done. On Welvergenoegd trail just before you go over the wooden bridge (2 way bridge) to start the climb towards the Cobra climb you will have to make almost a U-turn (to your right) and follow the trail down. Will see if I can get the distance and elevation?

Quick calculation: The Welvergenoegd loop that I mentioned above will be approximately 11km and 270m elevation gain. Total of about 23km and 395m elevation gain for Fair Cape and only bottom of Welvergenoegd loop. Talk under correction.

Awesome, thanks! I know exactly where that is.

Works for me. Maybe I'll start with Faircape en then do Welvergenoegd. If I still feel up to it by the time that I reach the bridge where I have to turn, I may just continue up the back of the Hoogies hill and head back down again at the exit from Hoogies to Welvergenoegd. That's a very big "if" however...

Unless you are very unfit, but I always feel like a 5min rest can be worth gold when you feel like there's nothing left.

If you were to ride the Faircape loop from Malanshoogte road, then link back to Hoogies via the Welvergenoegd section (skipping the massive downhill and climb section) and head straight up to the top of Hoogies and down to the car park, would be a nicer ride in my opinion.

Where you link up to Hoogies via Welvergenoegd from Malanshoogte, you don't do too much climbing anymore as you're almost at the top.

Hi There,

Sorry i'm a little confused so please bear with me.

I rode past an entrance on Adderley road - but when I say Adderley I mean the one past Diemersdal wine estate.

About a km past that give or take there is a MTB Trail Entrance that hooks off left into the hills.

How far is that trail and where does it go?

From the STrava loop poster - that looks more like the top entrance close to Hoogekraal.

Can you enter from Adderley side after Diemersdal? and can this same entrance be used as an exit if you enter on top of Malanshoogte / Hoogekraal side?

Yes you can, and the first section is a lovely piece of ST. The second bit is on jeeptrack and takes you through farmland/vineyards and spits you out on Adderley again.

I quite enjoy this link from Malans to Adderley.
