I saw some of the ranting in that 4x4Comm article and feel depressed.  I pretty much know there isn't a solution but those advocating essentially smashing the cyclists should somehow understand that if you ride into, over or punt someone into the shrubbery it is, for the normal person, a pretty traumatic experience; even if you are in the right. If in the wrong....................

Take a dose of care & patience FFS.

While the majority of big 4x4 drivers out there have sentiments displayed in threads like this http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/288949-Cyclists-with-a-backup-vehicle-behind we us cyclist will never be safe on the roads here is South Africa

RIP fellow cyclist

Here are some quotes taken from just the first page of the thread you linked. Not all of them are mouth breathing Mad Max wanna be's and are no different to the rest of us.

Labeling groups doesn't help.

"So, what is the solution for those that legally practice their sport on public rds. Not to inflame, but to look for an answer."

"Or maybe they do this because they are getting run off the road...."

"Never will I ride on the road again, because of selfish drivers."

"road cycling was just special. With your typical entitled drivers it has become impossibly dangerous."

"For this wondering, the cyclists are fully entitled to their use of the roads. Nothing wrong with what they doing"

"Can we then blame them for trying more defensive methods such as riding in a bunch with a vehicle behind them. I would rather be inconvenienced than the cause of a death."

"This is not a simple issue and all I am going to say on the subject is that there are two sides to the story. I have been both a cyclist and a driver and have some sympathy on both sides..."

"If we all just applied a little bit of common sense and adopted the European way of thinking things may actually function.

Most vulnerable is protected the most by the law, least vulnerable needs to make sure he/she doesn't injure or kill most vulnerable."

"Legally bicycles have the same right to be on a public road as a motor vehicle does, just because it is human powered and smaller doesn't mean it should be disregarded."

"Always remember that the person riding the bicycle, regardless of what a knob you may think he/she is, is someones father, son, brother, etc. Its human life we are disregarding, not the mode of transport people.

Give that some thought over your Christmas holidays."

Always sad when we lose a fellow-cyclsit to any road accident. Condolences to his loved ones. RIP. To my fellow-cyclists: please take care and remember to think and look ahead during this time on the road.

They are all big mouth until the day they actually run down a cyclist and are in court for manslaughter. Imagine how the case would go if they could produce a thread where he states he would have no problem mowing a cyclist down because in his eyes they have no right to be on the road?

I imagine that's not too much of a stretch nowadays with widespread access to social media.
