Swambo and I am going to be up in Jozi this weekend and will have our bikes with us.

Where is the best place to ride where we can do +- 65km.

Will be staying in the Rosebank area but don't mind traveling

MTB & weekends - Northern farm would be an option. Not far out from Rosebank and is pretty secure with a good number of riders turning out Sat & Sunday.

Northern Farms I believe has a 60km+ route, with various other distances and trails, so should be easy to do a combination of a few routes and do a very looooong ride!

On second thought - Rosebank probably closer to Modderfontein which also has some cool routes. Both are a good option though

Where about in Modderfontein.

Are there marked routes?

Go to Cyclelab in 4Ways at 5:55am on Sat morning. They do a guided ride for all abilities. The routes usually tend to be 50-60km and are 3hours long. The great thing is you are riding with a group, and its well attended.

Buffelsdrift in pretoria, you can do a 90km ride there if you want, one of the best trails in GP.

I can second Buffelsdrift. Just a long drive from Jhb tho.

Had a good chuckle at the title long ride. How our perception of what a long ride is can change. Last year I was training for an event and doing some serious miles. 180 _ 220km Saturday rides and then "short" 80km Sunday rides.

I was on my way out for a 80km Sunday ride when I met a chap from PE on his MTB. He was on a business trip and didnt know where to ride in Bloem.

He asked what my plans were. So I told him it was a short recovery ride, out and back, he is welcome to tag along, I just dont want to hold him up. He was very happy to join me.

About 20km out, he started looking uncomfortable, by 30km out he asked me if we were riding some sort of circle route, I said no, we are turning in 10km . The oke was shocked, he said but we are meant to do a short ride! It was a short ride for me under current curcumstances, turned out to be his longest ride until then.

And so our cycling careers progress one day 30km is a mountain too high next thing 300km is totally achievable.
