without trying to be funny ... let's also not forget about Boost being a benefit RE wheel strength and clearance with shorter rear stays.

That was what Bill Shook was on about, so bang on the money there Hairy. Just a pity the industry couldn't agree on a unified approach (trying hard to avoid using the S-word, cos lets face it, s-word and cycling are almost antithesis).

I think in general, there needs to be a shakeup in the venues. Ft. Bill and Leogang are really getting long in the tooth. Venues such as Val Di Sole and Andorra are good examples of what a DH track should be: steep, fast and techy.

It's just a shame that other venues aren't ponying up the cash to host a round. Let's hope other venues are more willing to do so with the Croatians showing what can be done.

fully agreed. Wrt tired tracks, Fort William seems to persist because of the crowds. It's hard to ignore that revenue stream. Also, Fort William seems pretty sedate compared to say, VdS. But the Cathro trackwalks indicate that track is anything but sedate. Looks pretty damn savage, just minus the roots.

Yeah, that's true regarding Ft. Bill. It's a classic for good reason, but I just think with the current resurgence in the profile of the sport, some new venues could only add to that and help to push things along. Just have a look at how much media buzz the Croatian round was able to generate.

Just imagine a Whistler Top of the World style track. The logistics would be a nightmare, but it would be epic to know that the riders are dropping into some insanely long, gnarly track.

Well that last paragraph describes #Enduro - its the new gnarly DH :-)

It appears that Commencal have found the 29er sweet spot with their DH bike. Didn't seem to be too hard for them and it is/will be one of the cheapest bikes available. At least the hype seems to be dying down and riders are riding what they feel like because there is a choice. I'd still like to see a few of the top riders race on 26" bikes again just for kicks. I think the results would be bad for marketing BS but helluva entertaining

I'd LLLOOOOOOVE to see a gravity powered Red Bull Straight Rhythm. Like Red Bull Straight Rhythm but on DH bikes. An exhibition event.

2 up racing

Big Bikes

Huge Jumps

double elimination

Big $

Winner takes all

at crankworx, don't they call that type of event speed n style?

btw: that jump pit at Meerendal/somefarmsomwhere, I always hoped it was going to be a straight rhythm event zone for MTB.

Have a round in Utah with heli uplifts. Build a mini oasis in the desert with luxury tented accommodation.....

Or maybe something like Burning Man but with a lot of bikes.....

In my best Kevin Costner voice, "If you build it they will come"

Why not 4X on 'roids?! 4 Riders competing against one another to get down a proper DH course. Dayum, that would be entertaining.

This ^^^^^ But no contact. 4x just became a T Bone fest and invariably the fastest 2 guys would take themselves out and the slowest 2 dudes out of the gate would cruise through.

There was going to be something like this at Livigno a few years back but the idea was stillborn.

Shame it would never happen. Very few serious Elite level riders would compete out of fear of injury.

*Name drop alert* So I was chatting to Nico Vink at Loosefest a couple years ago and he's super keen on this idea. He was thinking of supersizing the features. He's got the skills to build such a course, so maybe, just maybe, someone will be kind enough to help him fund it one day.

I do reckon his current circle of riding buddies is probably more likely to race than the elites though. But if you build it, they will come...

Doesnt the lesser known Atherton..Dan the man.... Build an insanely difficult course every year

Well.. He uses the same course.. Just tweaks it

And Red Bull already sponsor that. Perhaps an easy addition to the UCI calendar
