Mounting bike rack

So I took delivery of a lovely thule euroclassic bike rack the other day - excitedly put it on the tow bar clicked it into place and then went to plug in the lights into the plug only to find that access to the plug is blocked by the metal bar on the back of the bike rack  :cursing:

After taking a good look at it it appears that the plug location may not be fixed and is actually connected onto a piece of plastic that is held in place by one of the bolts connecting the tow bar - therefore I suspect if I loosen the bolt I can rotate the plastic anti-clockwise thereby making the plug accessible

My concern, however, is that if I loosen the bolt I'm going to compromise the tow bar - I don't want it to fall off with the bikes while driving (there are three other bolts that won't be loosened)

Is this a job for a professional or should I just suck it up and do it myself?

You can do it yourself, just drik it good.

Take it to thule and go ask them for advice.

Pretty sure if you just take it to the Thule agents you bought the rack from they will sort out it for you easily and for free.

Totally unsuited advice for a Friday  :w00t:  :whistling:

Step 1: Put on big boy panties;

Step 2: Get big spanner and start turning;

Step 3: Turn until it strips, then half a turn back;

Step 4: Buy a bakkie...

If step 4 is not successful, consider adding some locktite when bolting everything together, not the superglue one, the one that you can apparently loosen again.

I bought a secondhand roof- and bike rack and Thule still offered to fit it for me. As far as I understand moving the plug should be a pretty straightforward job, but if you are not the spanner wielding kind and would feel better if the agents did it properly, I don't see a problem with that.

EDIT: It's worth noting that those bolts are tightened by Nordic blacksmiths whose names are all consonants. So unless you have a socket set with a lekker long bar, they probably won't lefty-loosey.

Now I know for definite today is Friday!

Thanks for all the advice - I will put my big boy pants on, down a beer and see how I go - worst case scenario I fail miserably and crawl to a professional with my tail between my legs!
