If this doesn't work, Sunrace do 6sp triggers. It is still a new bike, okay a few months old. Do I replace just the outer cable ? Or both inner and outer ?
droo Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Inner and outer. The cables supplied on kids bikes are utter rubbish about 90% of the time, so if the gear cable does the trick then get the brakes done at the same time. Probably the best upgrade you can do to a kids bike.

Trick is to find a brand that has a trigger option. (which also have the correct colour)

That said, it's been a long time since I was a 6 year old girl. But you do get some terrible twist shifters. My approach with these things is to start with the cheap and easy things and work your way back from there.

That said, it's been a long time since I was a 6 year old girl. But you do get some terrible twist shifters. My approach with these things is to start with the cheap and easy things and work your way back from there. Played a bit in the garage .... When I push the derailure by hand the twist grip moves freely. When I pull the cable under the down-tube the derailure climbs the gears easy enough. BUT, shift gears with the twist grip and it is NOT easy ..... May just experiment with new inner and outer cables ..... before spending money on trigger shifters at least the brakes are working perfectly fine.

I gave up trying to find the right colours for my kids and just took them to the auto paint shop and let them.choose their own colours and spent a couple of weekends painting frames... at least they have never said their bikes are the wrong colour...

ahmedbadat Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 my boy struggled with the grip shifter also when he first got his bike at 4years old, what made difference and helped him alot was wearing gloves, he seems to get a better grip. took him about two months of stopping and using two hands or me to shift for him but then got use to it and built enough strength.

An3 Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I've replaced the twist grip with the trigger in the photo.I found this at Solomons (Pta) a few years ago.It worked very well.
