Hi All, I’ve been hunting for a Shimano GRX RD RX810 but haven’t been able to locate one in SA currently 😭. If anyone knows of a bike shop that has stock, pls let me know?Would be much appreciated!

Howzit All. Super inspiring thread!

I have a Cannondale Topstone 2 that I bought last year. Took off the 2X Tiagra and put on a 1X GRX600 and changed the seat post and seat. I have two sets of wheels one running 32 Specialised Roubaix tubeless tyres for road riding and the other the Goodyear Ultimate Connector 40mm tubeless. 
I have the same 11-40 Slx cassette on both wheel sets and running a 40T in front. 

Been riding road a fair amount recently and I do seem to run out of top end gears on the fast flat sections.

Usual riding gravel is out on Winelands Cycling club routes and around Somerset West/Paarl and wanting to expand to go into the Overberg  

Took the bike on some single track in Jonkershoek and joined a mtb ride over the mountain above Simonstown and  it handles fantastically. 
 

On gravel and road super comfortable. 
 

I’ve had my eye on the Cannondale Supersox Evo SE, but then I take this one out for a ride and I think to myself why so I want to change?? 
 

anyway, thanks for the inspiration!

Fix your top end like this 

garbaruk cassette, not sure what your deraileur can handle but they do 10/46 and 10/50 11 speed - with the extra range you can now run a 42 or bigger if you’re strong 

they aren’t cheap but last long

i'm on 11/42 - 42front and even that seems like plenty of topend....i basically only use it when going really fast downhill or wheelsucking at the CTCT on the m3 once a year lol. For the rest I feel it's not really the most comfortable ratio? I dunno, 13T on 42 front feels close to that sweetspot on flats on my bike personally. i think 12T would have been perfect.  10T in the back i'm quite certain i'll never use.

I kept up with the roadies at the 99'er in my group with 42T front just fine. It feels 'heavier' than my vintage manbike's 53/14

 

Also...I want to order a Garburuk one but cant get over the lead times. 30 days as of now. But I also feel ill never use the 46 or 51T. But there are so few 42T cassette options...i might just go back to riding a 36T lol

generally I ride using a 38 with the 10/50 as touring with the 42 made life tougher than it needed to be on a particular tour

I am currently using the 42 and feel this ration actually works best for me so unless I'm touring I'll stick with this - I do use the 50 occasionally but it's not exactly flat around here

As for Garbaruk lead times - shimano stuff seems to take longer but this company's service is top notch in my experience  - 30 days isn't that long in the current climate - plus its bling bling

If you don't think you'll use the 50, go for a 44 up front and impress your mates

I hear you on the shimano ones.

it's not a biggy to swop out my rear hub to XD (hope hub), But that would make it impossible (borderline) to slap my singlespeed stuff on there when i feel like it...which i do every now and then. 

That's the major drawback to running sram XD in my scenario...also why shimano microspline is a no go for me for now.

So a 42 on the front would add just that little bit extra?

It's more on the downhills where I can't always keep up but I've been fine on the flats with the 11-40 at the back (11 speed). Maybe I'll put a 42 on the front and look for a more road friendly rear option. 44 in front will be too big maybe

the 11/40 with a 42 might make the hills tough  - I'm soft, I like my granny gears so it's easy for me to advise you to get a 42 when I have a 50 bail out gear at the back 😜
