About Clint personally? I don't even know the guy. I have no feelings either way.

My statement has nothing to do with Clint - I just don't think the achievement is outstanding in the greater scheme of things.

Celebrating mediocrity is the South African way.   Was just talking about this today in a meeting.

Nothing taken away from grabbing a medal at Commonwealth games, but it's like racing a race when all the best guys are on holiday.

It was not close to a mediocre performance with a mediocre field.

Some are WorldTour calibre racers and the rest have full-time European schedules compared to the relatively easier m South African racing landscape within which Clint operates.

The course was also very tough and for the Clint to make the final selection was quite a feat, nevermind to podium.

He was also coming off illness and had to race conservatively to save his matches.

Chapeau Clint Hendricks ???? ????????

Bravo Team SA ????

Well done Clint Hendricks! One medal more than what most of us would ever achieve.

To be fair, without the Americans the swimmers also had an 'easy' ride except Cameron who beat the World record holder who was also well off his best. The runners too. So pretty much all our golds were worthless...

Well, on the basis of this thread, anyway.

It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and diminish others achievements I guess. Quite another thing entirely and work hard and achieve. I think those who don’t appreciate what Clint did, have never worked hard for anything in their life or competed on an equal footing with their peers.

I commend Clint and the rest of the SA team for reaching the level to compete and then for winning the medals they have. Bravo to all of them.
